Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

It's interesting to note that the GT-Rs power first has to go to the rear where the transmission is located, and then forward agaqin to front wheels. An unusual setup:

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

For those of you who has always wondered how a dual-clutch gearbox works:

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

So why does Nissan have it and Porsche doesn't?

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

the whole layout is interesting. Looks extremely heavy.

Porsche is busy buying VW and making orange boxsters .

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

The sad truth of it all.

    Heavy but it works.

7 min. 35 sec. for a car weighing 1739 kg with just 480 hp!

I wonder what the lap time of the GT, GT2, Zonda F ect. would be if you added a few hundred
kilograms and made the cars the same weight of the GT-R.

The New GT-R has to be considered the new king of the ring.

    A technological masterpiece.

No need to tell me that, I posted a lot about the GT-R here. For some reason, now that I reflect on it all, the GT-R is not my type of car. Has nothing to do with the way it looks or that it doesn't have a significant badge but more about how I am under the impression is does everything for you. I am sure a driver can make a mistake and have an off, but it would seem that it must be a large mistake for it to happen. This car will mask all of your driving ability. I'd rather have a car be so good it tells me that I am not driving it to its fullest and that I am not worthy.

By the time the car told you, you would have it already totaled.
Driving a "driver's car" fast is like playing on absolute devilish territory.
Why are so many repelled by the advancement in technology and its electronic helpers? Aren't we all also using the internet instead of going to a library?

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

I have no issue with electonics but its the way the car is engineered. To me Nissan wanted to make technology showcase, which this is, but its mission statement just isn't aligned to my preferences.

There are very capable drivers cars that are not scary like a Ferrari F40. E30 M3 comes to mind. I kind of miss my old 89 325i.

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

Looks like this design allows for better weight distribution for a front engine layout.

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

Maybe you may prefer more "feel" in your driving but please at least
admit that this Nissan has superior handling/performance to other cars.

I sincerely hope that it is not badge snobbery that is getting in the way of
    appreciating this superb vehicle.

The car performs so well so now the criticism is about "feel" and not looking right.

I thought this was meant to be a forum mostly about peformance.

No one seems to be excited at all about this car.

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

Vinnie, I don't have to admit anything. I already said it has nothing to do with the badge and this car is an accomplishment; it comes done to preference. Some people here like the GT3 while others prefer thr Turbo. Some of use like Ferrari cars while others don't mind it too much and might prefer a Corvette. For me, the purity of purpose just isn't my liking.

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

Nobody drived GT-R yet(I do not count Edmunds). No car magazine tested and measured it yet.

Let's wait with our final judgements...

I agree. Let's see what a standard car does, not the factory showcar - it's probably the same as with the Motor Trend 7:40 time for the Turbo.

CAR magazine will have first drive impressions "later this year".

Here's a very nice video of a (exclusive) ride in the GT-R, it sounds very nice when reving

But I guess what we all ewant to know is how fast Horst von Saurma can fling it around the NBR...

Well, since GT-R is coming to Germany(and all other LHD European markets) in March 2009(!!!) we have pretty long speculation period till then...

Re: Nissan GT-R drivetrain and transmission info

    That long, damn!

Audi may even have sorted out their DSG problems by then and released the RS5, which would probably mean that the GT-R will be "dead" in Europe...
