I don't know a word about it, but all these figures and specs sound so stimulant!

I don't want to dream too much and remember the "ultimate 959" (for me), but I can imagine, as RC suggested a "Turbo 997"......How will the rear be!!!!!

In any case, I'm shure we will again be surprised with performance figures, rather than with HP....

.....meanwhile, for shure Farina's LIGHT and ART will continue arrising ours smiles

In any case, for shure we will be satisfied, as with the fantastic 997S.

Of course THE KING IS BACK!

Re: 997 turbo: THE KING IS BACK!

Tim, I'm not laughing at all but I have my doubts about that RS model.
Right now rumors indicate 460 HP for the 997 Turbo and 500 HP for the 997 Turbo S. Other numbers indicate 445 HP for the 997 Turbo and 480 HP for the Turbo S.
We have to wait and see. The specs are already final as far as I know but of course it is difficult to find out detailled information.
I just wish Porsche would ignore tradition this time and go for a full 500 HP in the 997 and maybe 530 HP in the Turbo S.
But I gues the best we can hope is 460 HP for the 997 Turbo and 500 HP for the Turbo S.
But interesting enough, due to practically the same weight (+ 30-40 kg maybe), a shorter gear ratio (also because of 19'' wheels) and shorter overall ratio to limit the top speed at estimated 320-325 kph for the 997 Turbo S, the acceleration time is rumored to be in the GT2 range. And due to highly improved suspension, steering, AWD parts, performance will be out of this world. I know this sounds somehow fishy but I cannot post numbers and facts...yet.

Thats, with proper words and data, where my thoughts where....

The King, miles ahead from the crowd.....

I still have not my 997S (suppose for October or November), and already transmitted to my to my dealer the way to inmediatelly go to the 997sTT (or wathever "nomenklator") when it will "happen".

With no doubt, the new Turbo (almost for shure reasonabily priced in all models -as our beloved 997-) will give many joy to us.....and a lot of anger to others....

....I can "smell" Hurricane winds from Sttutgart ......

Re: 997 turbo: THE KING IS BACK!

500 HP for a turbo s model is quite enough IMO -- having in mind that porsche models (mostly) outpace other cars with more HP. porsche has to care about customers who now buy a turbo s with 450 HP as well -- they would IMO be piXXed if the 997 non-s turbo get's something around 500 HP and the s version even more (i still don't understand that the S/CL55 AMG customers quietly accepted the hefty power increase from 360 to 500 HP -- IMO that wouldn't be possible with the porsche clientele)

RC, any idea when the turbo will hit the streets?

if i remember it right the 996TT has been introduced in may 2000...

    so... spring/summer 2005? 2006?

    ??

Rumors indicate summer 2005 or maybe 2006.
I just heard that the marketing department has a last saying regarding a release date, even if the car is ready to go.
So I wouldn't be surprised if the 997 Turbo will be delayed, especially if the 997 S is a huge success.

Re: 997 turbo: THE KING IS BACK!

RC, any comment on my assumptions regarding looks?

and i think that for sure the 997 S is a great success...

If Porsche sold a lot of 996...the same and a lot better will sell the 997....looks great in live!

    thanks for your reply!

will probably also depend on 996 turbo (s) sales... although i'm not too optimistic regarding this -- IMO the turbo target audience will decide for a tequipment-arranged 997 S instead. or wait.

Re: 997 turbo: THE KING IS BACK!

If history repeats itself, there will be a period of time with no 911 Turbo for sale . There was a 8 month production gap between 930 and 964 Turbo, 15 months between 964 and 993 Turbo and 20 months between 993 and 996 Turbo . I bet that trend of lenghthening gaps reverses on the 997 Turbo, esp since the latter is an evolution from 996, not an all new platform / body like the 996 was , growing competition in the $100K + sports/GT market from non sports car companies and because the company's financial situaution is far better than in the mid 90s.

The marketing point is the key here, and also explains why we now have the 996 Turbo S ( higher margin variant to eek out as much profit from the 996 as possible). Those who have enough money to burn on a 996 Turbo S deserve all they get if the base 997 Turbo performance is superior. On the other hand, they might not even care as they are probably on the list for a 997 Turbo in any case.

I can't see the 997 Turbo being available at any point under 12 months from the current Carrera and Carrera S launch. Of course, I hope I am completely wrong because I can't wait to get my hands on one.
