    Need new Rear summer tires?

After about 12K cords are showing on Michelin pilots. Anyone have good luck with any other brand?

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

same, if you would like longer lasting tires, try P-Zero...

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

I don't track or drive very hard and I don't think I've ever been able to get that kind of milage on any rear Porsche tire. Lots of local driving though. Congratulations.

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

12k miles? You aren't driving enthusiastically enough!

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

I drove mine rather hard on some stretches with lots of road trips down to California driving on twisties and such, highway driving, etc. No track time though. My PS2 tires lasted up to 12,500 miles. I could have gone on a bit longer since the treads were not down to the wear bars yet but they were really close.

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

I have ps2. The rears lasted 12k when the threads started showing. The fronts and the rears have the threads showing now @ 20k+ Time to change all 4 now

Re: Need new Rear summer tires?

Suggest you consider a set of the Bridgestone Potenza's (I think they are the new "050A's") that have an "N" rating, meaning Porsche approves of them for replacement. I just saw a new turbo Carrera yesterday that had them as standard equipment, and a good friend of mine who has driven Porsche's for years recommended them.

My first set of Michelin rears got corded by 10k miles without track time. I have since tried the RE50As and although heavier, they seem to last much longer with same grip and including one track event. they are also cheaper. Since I don't track stock tires anymore (have hoosiers), I have decided that weight is not an issue and will stick with Bridgestone for now. My current rears have about 12k miles on them and they are only about half-way worn which is impossible with PS2s.
Hope that helps you make a decision.

The Bridgestones, while a little heavier than the Michelins, have a somewhat larger contact patch. With the PCCBs I feel I can sacrifice a little weight penalty. After 6K miles there are no noticeable signs of wear. Tread depth is down about 1/32.

6k miles after five track days. (and a new set of pads all round). But that's what the car is built for...not poodling around town.
