How does the Z06 (GM's best) compare to the Porsche Turbo (Porsche's second best)?

It's always compared to lesser HP cars and still just"loses" on the grounds of being a "good value."

Why not compare it to the TT and "settle" the matter?

Otherwise, with the big HP advantage of the Corvette's V8, it's always about the cheaper car being almost "just as good as" the more expensive car.

Well the Z06 wins in every performance category if that's what you wanted to know. One of my good friends has a 996GT2 and it's not even really that close when we run wround together. My cars just faster in every way. But the GT2 is one very sweet ride.

and the new 997 GT2 will eat the vette for breakfast

why do people still comparing present model to yesterday model?

Actually I hope it does. More competition keeps the cars getting better. ANd the reason I was comparing it is because my buddy has one. And there is no 997GT2 to compare it to. SOmehow I doubt it's going to eat it for lunch but we'll see. My guess is it will be about equal in acceleration.

rockhead, if you are happy after changing from a C2S to a Z06, then that's great. I'm genuinely happy for you.

Gentlemen, why is this discussion so competitive? Surely these are all just great cars offering different things each in their own way to different people for different prices? I would hope we could all just appreciate these cars for what they offer. If we each have the car(s) that suits our own individual needs, then surely that's enough?

rockhead, why would we "hate" you for changing from a C2S to a Z06? You're writing as though we each have some kind of 'tribal' loyalty to a brand and that we might resent you for 'defecting' to another brand. Huh???

We aren't disciples of a cult - we're just car enthusiasts!

Wow, what a brilliant post, I concur 110%.

Regarding another conspicuous post, I understand that some folks might not recognize my sarcasm or slightly bent sense of humor. I won't get into the psychoanalysis of it...

But trust me on this, my wife loves me very much. Gals tend to dig guys with A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR...

    Re: Z06 vs. my '05 C2S

Hey boss, keep your good sense of humour
I find your posts always a joy to read because they represent a quite special blend of car knowledge and good humor
While I completely can understand why somebody would prefer a Porsche over a Vette (or just the other way round for that matter ) some guys take it way too seriously - sportscars should be understood as toys for big boys in the first place and toys exist to have fun with and not to have a pseudo-scientific discussion who's got the nicer toy (reminds me of sand-box "discussions" sometimes).
We all should better trust your wife

    Re: Z06 vs. my '05 C2S

Thanks. I also slap my head when the "you need to drive your car this much and that much" discussions spiral out of control. Why does anyone care? They are for fun, at every individual's discretion, however they define their fun. If keeping my car clean, and enjoying it on sunny days makes me smile a mile wide, then be happy for me!

I just spent 3 days driving around a road course in Nevada with a '06 Z06. Fantastic car!!! I have been a diehard Porsche fan since my early teens and have owned a new C2S from the past two generations. I will be selling my C2S and buying a '07 Z06.
    Hate me yet?!
Other than the interior(Porsche hasn't created a great one either), the Corvette hit me hard with its Porsche beating accelaration and balance in corners after long slow braking.
    Hate me more?!
I always firmly believed I was buying the best car for the money with the Porsches. I am a driver not a poser. The performance and "The Ring" numbers are irrifutable regardless of our Porsche affinity. On paper it's a better car and from my recent track experience the Z06 gets to from point A to Point B, in a straight line or around any number of curves, faster.
Sorry guys, but the overall picture favors the corvette.

The previous generation, the 996 namely, did not include a Carrera S or C2S model. Are you such a real knowledgeable fan of Porsches? The previous C2S was in the 993 generation. I am saying this because you said that you own a current new C2S so it must be a 997 and, therefore, the previous generation (in order to make you an owner of C2Ss from the last two generations) must have been a non-existent 996 C2S.

    Re: Z06 vs. my '05 C2S

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I driven the Z06 and was impressed with the power, however, I was not impressed with the overall package. Granted this is the best looking corvette I have seen. I said "best looking corvette." There are many cars that can outperform a porsche. The problem is we just don't buy porsches for just the handling. I bought mine because I think they are beautiful cars. Not only beautiful but reliable. 2006 JD Powers award for customer satifaction. There are ferrari's, audi, lambo... I think there very few beautiful performance cars you can drive everyday. I considered a F430, problem is you can't drive it dailly. I can't imagine having a car like that and not driving it every single day. That's what my GT3 is for. 14,000 miles in 10 months.

You CAN absolutely drive a Ferrari F430 daily, if you are not paranoid about someone dinging a door or scratching it on a parking lot etc. My brother has a 2006 F430 with manual transmission and it has proven to be 100% reliable so far and he has over 5000 miles on it now.

I have owned a 1986 Ferrari 328GTS until 2003, a 1999 Ferrari F360 F1 and also a 1988 Testarossa. I sold the 328 GTS with 63k miles on it, the 360 with 23k miles and the Testarossa with 48k miles on it. Besides the very high cost of maintaining the Testarossa, all three Ferraris proved extremely reliable and I didn't use them more often because of the fears already mentioned, not because of their mechanical abilities.

Many people who downplay the Ferraris' day to day abilities are just basing it on hearsay and not on actual experience. By the way, I've also been a Porsche owner since age 19, so it's not like I am biased for Ferrari. I still think the Porsche 911 is a far more versatile car and costs substantially less to operate than a Ferrari. Nontheless, that doesn't mean the Ferraris can't be used daily.

    Re: Z06 vs. my '05 C2S

while I started a thread "do you feel cheated" about how porsche has become a run of the mill car, with SUVs, and soon a 4-door sport saloon, I must say that is not a fair comparison... I only have ONE thing to say, come post again your thoughts when you're shutting the door of the corvette in a couple of years... you'll feel the whole car rattling... the key difference here is built quality, materials, and finishing... there is just no comparison... enjoy the corvette, and we'll see you back soon in a european made car... I'm sure :-)

I agre 100% however that is if the vette even has a door after 2 years But all the jokes aside, that is the area where german cars shine. Tight bodies and a classis look.
