    pick your evil jap!

    ok guys. The wait is finally over ( for me at least). Subu and Mitsu have finally released images and specs of their new rally-road cras. The STI and EVOX. The Question is what would you pick. I am definitely going to pick one (stick shift) and learn how to drive cars properly on the track without worrying too much about repair costs and expensive consumables. Every other car ive had has either had an smg or triptronic or auto gearbox.

    The STI:
    * (308PS) 304hp/6400rpm; (43kgm) 311lb-ft/4400rpm
    * (mm) 4415 x 1795 x 1475
    * (inch) 173.8 x 70.7 x 58.1
    * weight 1480kg/3263lb (1470kg/3241lb for 17" and 18" BBS option)

    The EVOX:
    276HP/6500rpm; 311lb-ft/3500rpm
    * RS 5M/T 1420kg (3131lb) 11.3LB/HP
    * GSR 5M/T 1520kg (3351lb) 12.1LB/HP
    * GSR TC-SST 1540kg (3395lb) 12.3LB/HP

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    amir how can you even think about it?? the sti is FUGLY, it is designed by stevie wonder! what were they thinking??? OTOH the evo X is the best looking evo ever,looks good

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Where is the Sedan of the STI? The Estate/Wagons are always ugly! Evo looks great though.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    The Impreza is so fugly that even Chris Bangle wouldn't want to be caught dead in it. Whereas a white Evo X... WANT!

    By the way, don't assume the Evo is any less powerful. Almost all Japanese performance cars claim to have only 280 PS, but actually have more. I reckon there's some kind of legal or tax restriction on advertising more than that there.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Amir, youre looking for a track car, so I will keep a straight diplomatic face, and not comment on the apparent 100% ugliness of these ricers.
    There, that was pretty neutral, wasnt it?
    Anyways, I know from a friend of mine who owns a late model Evo 8 (or 9 or whatever number they are at) that it's heavy and has such a neutral balance, that it has a tendency of always skids on all 4 wheels when pushed. This makes the car predictable ut boring, according to him.
    Ppl with Subarus like their nimble steering and balance - and live with the sucky design because of its great handling-to-price ratio.

    Both cars look like a mistake dug out from the trashcan of Hyundai's design studio, so please, whatever u pick please keep it on the track, so u wont get harrassed on public roads

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    I am part Japanese and I do not care to much for either, which I will not pick the 'I hate japanese cars cuz im an egocentric racist!' option. Both of them should go on a serious diet.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    EVO all the way!

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Can I pick Porsche? These cars are all butt fugly.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Trackday car, gimme a Elise, about the same price!

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    The Evo is too tall. The Subaru is a Subaru. Two DQ's.

    If you are shopping for Nippon Autoware a Honda S2000 is almost the same price.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    The Scoobies interior is so cool and looks like good quality, which is awesome cause I think thats usually where they let themselves down...

    I'd take the Evo anytime though!!!

    lol +1

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    optically both are "different" but interesting.kinda hard after a porsche....
    driving wise: you gotta drive them back to back.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    For road usage I would go with the Mitsu Evo.
    For track usage I would pick a different type of car.

    I was a fan of Subaru for a long time but I've seen the new car in person and it's horrible!

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Lotus Exige or Elise is the way to go for a real trackcar - or even better and much cheaper: A Lotus 7.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Only problem with Elise/Exige is that I am not sure if they are safe in an accident on the track. Whereas with the STI I think you are pretty safe especially if you put a roll cage in.

    of course they are safe...to a certain limit that is

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    From the pics , I say the STI . The Mits looks like a Honda Accord ....

    Congrats on whatever decision , bud ....

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    I agree with you throt rastaman

    never thought I would like the STi better than the EVO judging from the concept models....

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    by the way the Impreza makes me think about the great Lancia Delta HF Integrale..widebodied fourwheeldrive hatchbacks

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Amir, I ahve voted for "I hate japanese cars cuz im an egocentric racist" because I liked this better than both the cars. so you will have to make some numbers with the votes.....
    But in any case take the EVO, man. The subaru is really really hoplessly ugly!!!! But in the end both will go quite fast so depends on the price and the one you like most.

    Hasn't that always been the case?

    The WRX STi has never been an elegant car, but that did its success no harm.

    Re: pick your evil jap!

    Evo is seat Cordoba all the way in the back...
    Even the wheels remid me of it...
    DAMN shame...
