    Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

    Top Gear is back!

The guys went to Europe in search of the best driving roads with a 997GT3RS, a Gallardo Superleggera and a AMV8 N24. From Monaco, they went to the Col de Turini, then Lake Maggiore then a road from Davos to the Stelvio.

Honestly, it really reminded me of my own trip this Summer!!

Their conclusion was that Switzerland had the best roads for driving....and that the RS isn't worth the extra money over a 997GT3 nor is the Superleggera worth the extra money over a normal Gallardo...

Hope you guys can enjoy it on Bit Torrent etc etc or Speed Channel (or wherever you can catch the show)...

    All the best,
    Easy

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

Thanks for the tipoff this is going to be a good one.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

oh the sound of the v8 of the N24, the flat 6 of the GT3RS, the V10 of the Superleggera in the tunnel!!!!!

I was grinning from ear to ear just from watching it!

Some may think Top Gear is not a real car show but more like an entertainment shows that involves car, I have to say the camera work on the cars is fantastic and is the best of all car shows!

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

mmm good to have TG back !!

ok their jokes are pobably all scripted, but so funny!

especially to "pull of at a car park"

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

Amazing.. loved it. I loved the cracks at 5th gear.

I'm one who thinks that Top Gear is an "entertainment show that involves cars" not to say that it doesn't have any content, there's some there hidden behind a lot of antics. Very well done and always a good watch.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

Too bad they didn't have a proper "Aston Vantage RS" and had to deal with the N24 version. N400 might have been more appropriate.

Great show though, love it when they do their epic journey/films.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

    Poor James May hehe

Currently downloading, can't wait to see the trip to the Alps..

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

Then you still have something to look forward to

The journey part was as good as the ones before it, and the time they spend in the studio has become a lot more entertaining. The film production have always been great, and now they've taken more of that professionalism into the studio as well

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

    Youtube'd

    part 1

    part 2

    part 3

    part 4

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

that was an amazing video, for me Top Gear is the best tv-show, better than fifth gear, and it doesnt matter if Jeremy is a non-porsche fan, like Hammond is

Another great video is the one they go to the north pole and race jeremy+may vs hammond....amazing !!!

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

The North Pole episode was great. I rank that as one of the best videos.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

Thanks Alex! As for the cars, I like them all but I cannot help but be in love with the 430 Scuderia. I'd love to see that on the track.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

This was great television. Not much talk about the cars themselves though, except that these wee street legal race cars, thus the wrong type of cars for driving through europe...

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

I think those cars were excellent choices for the type of roads they were featuring. Everytime I think of the Stelvio Pass I recall the issue of evo where Richard Meaden drives the 996 GT3 MKII and 360 Challenge Stradale. One of my favorite articles till this day and photography is superb. I'd like to drive the Stelvio Pass with any of the cars featured in the Top Gear episode and even the 430 Scuderia.

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

How come the Stelvio was empty for them? They either had the road closed or went there at the crack of dawn?

I have to say that the Stelvio, whilst dramatic with all its hairpins, and whilst it's obviously an amazing feat of roadbuilding, is really not perfect for driving spiritedly since the hairpins are so sharp that you can't really drive all that fast. That road from Davos which they stumbled across seemed perfect.

I have to say that IMHO having mountains in the scenery isn't an essential prerequisite. I would thoroughly recommend the Col de Turini road but also the quiet but winding road that connects Bologna to Firenze (via Passo della Futa and Passo Raticosa) and also the national road in Italy (not the Autostrada) that goes from Bolzano down to Torbole (near Lake Garda). Those were simply awesome driving roads.

Of course, driving Swiss mountain passes like Sustenpass, Grimselpass and Furkapass are also amazing....

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

This is good information. I have not been in Europe in such a long time; almost 15 years. Being a young lad I had no clue about driving roads.

As for James, I feel kind of sorry for the guy. Had to endure the raw nature of the N24 throughout the whole trip. If he knew that he was going to drive the Aston I do not understand why he did not invest in some ear plugs to drown out some of the noise. Alright, that is one of the semi-solutions of the many things that bothered him but atleast he could have minimalized the torture.

Thanks. Must have been paid by Ferrari.

That show is staged. Which one except for Captain Slow could've driven the all-out racecar in that episode?

Ironically, the "mafiosi" who cause the "accident" are driving Fiat Dino's (Click Here).
Also, the movie was financed by FIAT (L'Avvocato Agnelli).
BTW, the movie was released the year that FIAT increased their stake in Ferrari to 50%

Of course Top gear is staged, but it is a wonderfully made show.

The presenters may have a lot of seat time in nice cars/trackdays, but they started their careers as journalists.

If you want to see real drivers, watch Fifth Gear

    Re: Top Gear GT3RS, Superleggera, AMV8 N24

I like both but I prefer Fifth Gear. Top Gear just has a lot of personality...
