bobr:RC...I think Porsche has begun this brand extension with the 991 R, T and the GT3 Touring edition. Of course, we will pay more for this performance with optional MT and PDK...
i think this is correct. This is the best way for Porsche to satisfy both the customers (many new to the brand) who want the latest tech in a 911 and are less dogmatic about NA engines etc, and the long time 911 fans who want a connection to the driving machine most of all. This will mean gradual dilution of the "halo" of the GT lineup as variants multiply and production increases, but Porsche has already signalled that their job is not to protect the residual values for flippers. I don't believe that the cannibalization of the GTS etc models is a significant problem, as it is easy to price the GT lineup to make the same profits from them, and better to keep people in the brand rather than migrating to more unworthy brands like Audi...

SciFrog:All they need to do is split further the regular Carrera and the GT models, then give us the GT models we want: wing delete option, PDK, 4 seats option, more sporty leaner interior, and the holy grail: chop the roof. I have been clamoring this for the better part of the last decade and that’s one of the reasons I have moved away from 911, as many have here.
The real issue they have if they do that is margins and sale volumes of the higher priced Carreras...
I Have one!!! The 981 spyder ... it really is the nicest driving machine i ever had. Only for track-use you need a real GT-porsche.
After having roadtrips to Italy (twice), Corse and south of France (every mountainroad we tried was amazing!)
The sound is more intense, the emotions are far bigger than in our previous R8 and several p-cars.

ISUK:I think the barrier to returning the 911 to it's function of sports car is the lack of a 928 successor which means that Porsche are trying to cover two distinct customer groups with one car hence why the interior becomes ever further away from the ethos of simplicity of both form and function.
If they were to introduce a front engined, two door GT car using a shortened Panamera platform or possibly as a complete new model within the Mission E family then the 911 could be repositioned. Simplify the model range and abandon the Carrera name and return to the system of T for the base "touring" model, S and GTS. Add in option packages that influence the look of the car such as a "historic" pack that brings the aluminium window trim surrounds, a Fuchs style 5 spoke wheel design, cloth seat inserts, distinct historic exterior colour palette etc. That would be very popular in markets such as the UK and US I suspect.
methinks you are a genius sir
blueflame:RC:Try the new R8 V10 Plus Spyder...
YOU should try the 981 Spyder in the alps...
Blueflame
I tried the 981 Spyder in many ways...still not close, sorry.

To add a bit of spice, and to remind everyone where and when the 911 began, my son and I just built a model of the original 1966 911 motor. The model is sold by Porsche and was tricky but fun to build. The video is not great, but you get the idea. 911 motor.MOV
Thanks Grant, being a manual guy I knew you would appreciate this model. My first Porsche was a 1966 912, only a four banger, but I can still remember that shift lever in my hand. Also, were you able to listen to the video? For some reason I cannot get it to play on my phone, but it does play on my computer. LMK.
Took about eight hours total, and you have to be very, very patient. Several tiny parts but Porsche has done a good job with this model. Cost was about $180 US from the Herrington catalog. There’s also an article about the kit in the next to last Christophorus. If anyone wants to build one, I’m happy to give some advice.
BTW, The engine sound and spark plug lights are better on the model than in the video.

Paulo_Rangel_Melo:Hey RC?
Any new news on the 992 like Oficial Presentation date, Lauch Date, Cars Arriving in Dealers?
Regards.
Right now all I know is "autumn/winter 2018". Definitely this year.
Whoever is interested in good 991.2 deals, should start looking for them now.

Joost:Will these "erste bilder" (first images) be the real thing, or "assumptive renderings"?
What do you think?
