You know,
this is an interesting question, I've always wanted to have a "james bondish" license plate holder that would flip the license plate each time i press a button. I think this would be the ultimate photo radar protection device ever.
Now i dont know if this is illegal or if there is enough of a demand for this for me to make it. I already have a couple of plastic molds for license plate frames that i can alter in order to hold a lil motor. what do you guys think?

Ditto. I am already looking for one for my Oct build all white TT. California plates are white, so a black frame isn't going to work. Not using a frame is clean, but looks a bit unfinished. I'm thinking about finding a nice minimalist metal plate fame, and then painting it Carrara white - where would I find the matching paint w/o taking the frame to a body shop??...a spray can would be fine for this purpose.

Depends on where you live but I think the best holder is the _least_ memorable one. A nice simple black frame would be best, IMO. Better would be one with a laser sensor screwed onto it.
Why? Because a significant percentage of people get p*ssed when fast expensive sports cars pass them or otherwise drive "wrecklessly" (when interpreted by a frustrated passive-aggressive ahole). The fewer unique features on your car the better.

Doesn't say anything cool but this Carbon Fiber one is on my 430. I've been looking for another one (for my upcoming Turbo Cabrio.) but can't remember where I bought it 3 yrs ago. If anyone has an idea where to buy it or maybe one just like it please let me know. tia~

New to the board here but saw this post because I was looking into the same so I thought I'd share with you what I'm looking at getting - I don't have any equity interest in this place so there's no real bias, but it's real carbon fiber, not a paint on job - haven't received it yet but I'll let everyone know if it is in fact as cool as I'd hoped - http://www.autoplates.com/catalog/carbon-fiber-license-plate-frame-p-29556.html

I imagine he has more than one car so do ALL of them have the number "1" on them? Sort of like Airforce One for the president here... Airforce One isn't a particular plane but it gets that designation when the president is on it. (For an Airforce plane. Marine One for the Marines, and I believe "Commercial One" for a non-military aircraft if it ever came to that for him to travel.)
