Porker:GT3 rolled off the production line today, will be at the dealer in CH in two weeks. Very curious how the spec turned out as I've never seen the color IRL.
You spec'ed a car with a color you have not seen before?
BTW, what color is IRL?

DaveGordon:Great pics, Grant Congrats! How are you finding the gearbox?
It is really excellent - I think even better than GT4...

I suppose it want to rev free!
Yes, 5k is pretty frustrating (just starts to come alive and then shift...)

Car looks great. The scenery, while incredible, is a reminder that you are way up there in altitude and going to miss some ponies. Nice that you got the feel of it in Germany. I wish my dealer would get more than one or two cars each time a gt car comes out. No way for me to get one. As a Porsche owner of 911s for my entire life (38 years and 8 cars continually it is a shame that now that I can buy a new one it is not available. Oh well. Some don't even know what they have or appreciate it for what it is. It is a bit frustrating. I'm a driver who would really use the car.

Yes I did, that's the risk with speccing a PTS I guess... There has been one GT3 RS before with the color but I've only seen it in pictures so it will remain a surprise IRL (In Real Life).

Congratulations on the car and the awesome colour!
Love the photos but where is all the snow? All the resorts on the Canadian west coast seem to be opening early..
Enjoy the driving. If you love the first 5k rpm on the engine the next 4 will blow you away.

martini964:Congrats Grant, This picture reminds me of that huge fire band several years ago, that I drove with 964 from toronto to denver for climbing but ended up in cheyenne, heading north and coming back from Montana. all in 9 days.
That's a long road trip!

SO, a few of the 918 owners got their GT3 in manual already like me, we shared some thoughts.
The general consensus is like mine, the GT3 is too refined, it lost the 'raw'ness of the 911R. The noise is still there, the engine sounds great, but it's missing the rough idle, the extra vibrations from the single mass flywheel. Same can and will be said for the GT3 Touring.
For those that thought the GT3 Touring will be a 'poor man's 911R substitute, it cannot be farther form the truth. While it looked almost the same on the outside and almost the same on the inside, they are just as different as a GT3 Touring vs a Carrera S with manual.
Pretty amazing that Porsche can use a single basic body, 'platform' so to speak and make a million different versions and each feels completely different than the others.
McLaren still have a long way to go in that regards, off all the cars they made using the 12C platform, which is every single model they have ever made sans the F1, no matter how their PR department spin them as 'different' models, they all basically feel and drives the same. The 720S comes close to being the best and most different, but still, it is quite close to the original 12C.
