Maybe i should buy my cars in Germany hehe

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

    RC:

Say hello to my new(?) ride... 991.2 Carrera GTS Convertible.

Car has basically the same color/interior and options like my current 991.1 C4 GTS Convertible.

Only the rear wheel steering is new.

Good thing: Nobody will notice that this is a new car. blush

Bad thing: My wife isn't too happy because she was hoping to get her C63 S AMG Convertible by May 2018.

Reason why I did it? Dealer offered this car for a 12 months lease for the same money I pay for my current 991.1 GTS now. No down payment. Amazing offer, he did a similar thing with that Cayenne S Diesel my wife has.

Unfortunately my 991.1 GTS winter wheels (over 7k for the set) don't fit the new 991.2 GTS but dealer found a simple solution: He puts me new winter tires on the summer rims and when spring comes, he puts me new summer tires on the same rims. Free of cost. Smiley

Reasons why dealer does it? New 992 is coming next year, they ordered too many GTS 2WD and demand is mainly for AWD version (C4), they need more sales/leases this year (has something to do with a bonus program) and finally, my dealer has a customer who is interested in my n/a engine 991.1 GTS. Perfect combo. blush

We postponed my wife's C63 S AMG Convertible to an Oct. 2018 delivery and here is the good news about it: The C class convertible facelift happens in July 2018. Meaning: My wife gets the facelifted C63 S AMG with a slightly new look (Panamericana grille is rumored), new interior with digital(!) dashboard and...more power (rumored are 520-530 hp).

I am quite happy about this "constellation" because I get to drive the latest 911 Cab for 12 months, brand-new and my wife gets the facelifted C63 Cab.

I was at the ring when these guys were testing ( doing the same event ) .  I did have that  GTS  in my rear mirror , on  my tail and let him through , and then could not keep up for too long ( unless I was up to take unwanted risks ) Smiley

I noticed specially the difference on exit turns, as the torque of the GTS was definitely an advantage .

The GTS can be very fast !

Holy smoke, did not realize the GTS had that kind of pace, it's amazing what that torque from the turbo does !!

Picking it up next Friday, sales guy will be in Portugal early next week, so we have to finalize the deal later next week.

Papers are already signed, so car is mine.

Car looks really good, they changed the Alcantara stuff (more of it, less leather), car also has Sport Design package with that different rear wing, which also rises higher.

    I know. Smiley

I asked now why and sales guy told me he needs higher sales numbers of C2.

Of course he can feed me BS and there is another reason but this is what he told me when I asked.

No after deal required! (I was a bit worried when he mentioned that I could pick up a 992 afterwards but he made it clear that there is no obligation and lease contract is a standard one).

wink Hi RC, I commend you for making this change! The new GTS will make you very happy. I do have to kid you a bit, however, because the old 991  was going to be your forever "keeper" car. Life is about change, and automotive improvement, so keep having fun and keep making changes.

Nope, it was my wife's former keeper car...until my son ruined the experience (he refused to be driven to school in a Porsche... Smiley) and my wife fell in love with the C63 S AMG instead, also because of the rear seats.

I never wanted to keep the 991.1 GTS but I would love to keep the R8 (maybe facelift) but probably not possible (we'll see).

    Complicated family... Smiley Smiley

Sydney, I'm only taking this deal because I find it amazing and I like it to have something knew, even if it is for a year only.

RC, you are great at finding good deals. I admire your interest in different cars, your ability to get favorable leases, your command of the English language, and of course your professional contributions to  Rennteam👍

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

    Congrats RC! Nice move kiss

I truly enjoy my GTS. It is all the 911 one could ever need. In Sport Plus mode and PDK set to manual it is great fun to drive and so very capable and fast. In normal mode it is more S-class than sportscar.

Two things I am less happy about:

    1. The engine has lost some responsiveness and character compared to the 991.1. I assume all due to the turbos.
    2. The PCM software has too many bugs and spelling mistakes. Maybe I just need to upgrade the software?

Would have loved to get the C4 version but with the same monthly lease rate...28k EUR down payment. Ouch. Smiley

C4 versions sell very well here...

Excellent car, no about about it. Actually, believe it or not but I am looking forward to the new 3.0 l biturbo engine because it will give me the pleasure of a "small 911 Turbo" in a convertible package. I loved my n/a 991.1 GTS but to be honest, it couldn't really keep up with the R8 in terms of throttle/engine response.

Two things I am less happy about:

    1. The engine has lost some responsiveness and character compared to the 991.1. I assume all due to the turbos.

This is something I know but actually will enjoy in the 911 because I was driving the n/a version for over two years. Only thing I am worried about is the exhaust sound but it isn't as bad as the one in my former 911 Turbo S.

    2. The PCM software has too many bugs and spelling mistakes. Maybe I just need to upgrade the software?

Interesting, good to know. Smiley Don't know how old the car at the dealership is, I think I saw it in August there but I'm not sure. So it may not have the latest PCM software but my wife has the same PCM in her Cayenne and didn't have issues yet. She doesn't use Apple CarPlay though and usually doesn't stream music (I assume this is where the issues are?).

This is of course entirely subjective, but IMHO the 3.0l PSE has a nicer sound on the inside than the 3.8l PSE. More air-cooled howl.

The pops on the overrun in Sport mode are ridiculous though. Thankfully they are not present in Sport Plus mode. Although it does make them even more ridiculous, since it is too obvious that the pops are artificial.

If Carlos reads this, it does sound better on the outside too. That is not subjective. Smiley

Apple CarPlay actually works really well. No issue so far. The bugs I refer to are spelling mistakes such as Apple CardPlay in one menu instead of CarPlay, the setting for the sound bass is described as treble instead of bass in the menu, etc. All minor things, but somewhat embarrassing.

The one which does annoy me is the scope for the vehicle menu in the instrument cluster. It reverts to a default setting whenever the ignition is turned off and on again. I did not think one has to save the selection for the scope, it was not like that in the C4S nor GT4, but maybe I missed something.

Will post a short review of my new 991.2 Carrera GTS Convertible soon...

Short summary: I like it a lot, with few exceptions.

I will also try to do a comparison to my former 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS Convertible.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

RC congrats on the .2 GTS. Although I look forward to the GT3 next spring I am surprisingly fond of my .2 C2S. I leased an S550 cabriolet and wife and I are delighted with the car. The 550 is a powerful engine even in such a large car so the 63 should be a brute with a great sound. The new GT style front end is a very different look.
