The SC does not result in the engine getting an increased fuel/air ratio. It just results in it getting the same ratio, just a few millimeters sooner as far as pedal travel is concerned. There's nothing different between "SC throttle, 20% of pedal travel" and "normal throttle, 40% of pedal travel".

If you want the car to make the same noise with SC off, just push the pedal a bit farther down.

If you're flooring the pedal all the way down, there's no difference at all.

Yes, "front loaded" throttle is what I had said earlier. I understand that the car is no faster and that full throttle is the same. (I considered that maybe the air/fuel mixture was increased at the beginning of throttle input and tapered off.) Maybe it's my imagiation that the exhaust sounds a little more aggressive. My P tech must have the same imagination, however.

Regardless, I would still consider SC a must have.

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

I agree SPORT CHRONO in Combo w/ PSE is a must

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

Don't understand why so many people are recommending to wait a few months for the facelift DI Carrera by saying that you will get nearly as much power as an X51 without investing 15K. First of all, new technologies do always come with "teething troubles". Second, who says that Porsche will not use this opportunity to raise the prices and to shorten the distance to the other high end sports manufacturers? Third, what is the real benefit of 15+ HP, fugly busy backlights, cross-eyed frontlights and a pubescent front in general?

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

I'll add to the PSE votes. I drove a 997S cab in Germany and it was very entertaining with the top down, yet could be quiet when need be.

Being 1st on the block to own one. It's all about perceived twig and berry sizing and the effect of a brand new Porsche on that perception.

The probabilty to be first back in the workshop is also fairly high.

If Porsche will raise the prices with the DI the depreciation of the pre-facelift models will not be higher and I truely believe that they will use the opportunity.

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

I highly recommend sports chrono package with the tip-consider it the "tip is no longer a dog in auto mode" option. In sport mode the shift mapping is dramatically different - stays in lower gears longer and down shifts for engine braking - I would not buy a tiptronic without it (and I've had 5 previous Porsches with tips to compare it with).

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

get the X51 power kit... especially if you're getting it in tiptronic... you'll love the extra low-end torque

What did I miss (or should change) that the collective group thinks is a "must"?

Best deal I could get was 1500 off MSRP. That certainly wasnt stellar. Nov build with a Dec delivery... so they say.

    Thanks

Most people come here and to Rennlist BEFORE they order so they can learn off others. From your short list it appears that your emphasis is more on looks than performance, e.g., the headrest crests (Porsche marketing) and the SS thresholds (only seen when the door is open).

A couple of significant options that you left off are the PSE, the Sport Chronometer (do what others have said,--read up on all its features), and perhaps the multi-functional steering wheel,--particularly if you have the nav system. I don't think the nav system would be nearly as easy to use without the multi-functional wheel. Your hands would be reaching for the display controls on the console all the time.

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

I agree with stradale . thicker steering wheel w/o multi funtion . with tip ALL you want on steering is shift funtions .sc yes .door sills have clear 3m tape installed .PSE ....you wont even want the radio on when PSE is on . CRG

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

I still cant figure out what the Crono package gets you. You already have PASM which will tighten up the suspension. The Tip has multiple modes...

"In automatic mode, Tiptronic S has different gearshift patterns ranging from "Economy" to "Sport". Depending on driving style and the topography of the road, Tiptronic S selects one of these five patterns and applies the optimum sequence of gearshift points."

So as far as I can tell all you get is an clock. May be its different on other 911's. So why does everyone seem to want it??

As for the PSE, no performance boost there, only throater sound. Does the stock 911S sound wimpy to start with such that its worth $2400 for PSE? It is a Cab after all.

Not sure what you mean by that.

Porsche does not claim any hp increase but there must be with a more free-flowing exhaust...maybe 5 hp? I don't know. It may not occur during peak hp on the curve but maybe power doesn't fall off as sharp after peak.

The stock sound does sound wimpy. I read somewhere that Porsche made the stock exhaust louder for the cabs. Get the PSE and do the mod so it's always on. You'll love it.

Re: Ordered a '08 4S Cab What did I Miss?

sorry to say it, but what you missed is waiting for the face-lift, increased bhp, and DGS transmission
