I seriously can't see the meaning of these vehicles - other than this being a clever way of making money.
It has a clearance that makes the handling inferior to that of a similar sedan, it's not an offroader (heaven forbid u scratch it!), too small to reallly use it as a transporter and too heavy to be nimble and sporty.
I know they try to convince us that all of the above abilities are in one and the same car - yeah, right.
The design of this X6 is okay, but why not get a 5-series touring instead?
I dont get it
It only gives new meaning to the term SUV = Superfluous Useless Vehicle.

I suppose we'll wait and see how it drives. There are two reasons why I'd consider it
1) The higher driving position (I hired an X3 for a week when my folks were visiting, it drove terribly (2.0 diesel) but I enjoyed the driving position), and
2) The hybrid thing means I won't have to pay for the Congestion Charge in London - let's face it, the alternatives e.g. Prius ain't exactly easy on the eye either! I'd argue the X6 is possibly the nicest looking SUV I've seen so far (come on Porsche!)
If it turns out to be like 60k GBP then forget it

I like it. Ground clearance, high seating position to see around traffic, parked cars etc in the urban jungle. Surprisingly good performance (my x3's with sport package capability suprised me) so BMW should make the X6 perform. Might be the replacement for the X3 when the lease is up.

I read from Autocar that it is very likely that it will go into production. Hmm... I wonder if RC knows anything about Porsche's strategy on a similar type of vehicle.....?

Production is confirmed 100% , car will be available in '08. X6 looks "cool, menacing and sporty" , it will become a big seller for BMW for sure.
I like it , it is as useful (or useless) as the X5 , same car , same possibilities except for a chopped part of the roof/trunk which 99.9% of X5 owners never use.
I have a Grand Cherokee as a beater and I put lots of stuff in the back but I can't remember ever loading anything higher than the back headrests.

dr. phil, altough its a BMW, its the only one thats NOT a pure driving machine.. i think these cars are popular in urban regions.. cities and stuff.
