Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

300 miles of real world autonomy (ie hot days, cold days, traffic...).
Same semi autonomous features as you mention (ie several minutes at a time on highway).
Fast fun crossover with good handling.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

    noone1:

It's gotta have the autonomous highway driving at a bare minimum. That is such an awesome feature.

For what? You would rather it does autonomous driving during bumper to bumper traffic.

    Highway driving is fun.

Depends where you live but my highway rides are usually all encumbered...

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Hundreds of miles going 80 mph in a straight line? No thanks.

I did 1300 miles on highway in the 918 in 2 days on my way to Vegas. It is fun to vary the crushing speed by myself instead of doing a constant 80 as dictated by cruise control. Actually I never used it on the 2600+ miles journey. Never in my life had I engaged cruise control in any cars I have driven. Well except the speed limiter on the race car in pit lane.

Highway driving could be fun if you are on a trip but most of our commutes are for work, do lack the scenery, and have loads of traffic which means high concentration driving and that can be exhausting. Hence, automation would make our lives easier.

Once you are in full automation, you are IMO 80% of the way to mass transit, albeit in a piece of mass transit you have payed big bucks for.  If society accepts that as preferable for whatever reasons, it is a short step to banning non-automated driving at least in dense urban centres.

Why do you guys want 300 miles real world range? How far do you drive everyday? That's just unnecessary weight. You do realise that you will be charging the car every night when you get home?

Twice a week I would be driving about 250 miles roundtrip so I think 300 would be the minimum if I were to get an electric car. The model's 3 long range battery is 310 miles which is nice.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

That commute is the main reason I want semi-autonomous drive, being electric is just a bonus.

I do 200-250mile highway commutes twice a week and for me the best part of those days is grabbing the GTS to do them with.

Obviously it is all down on where you have to commute, I have winding highways with little traffic and great road conditions... but don't want to touch autopilot with a ten feet pole...the GTS is going to hit 50k soon!  driver.gif

Before moving to the US, I've been using my .1 C2S for all my commutes which now has over 120,000 km. But that's the beauty of those cars, they are built to be driven, not stored, and I definitely did not buy it for the second owner. As long as I keep enjoying it, it will remain in my garage. I got to say, the biggest joy they bring is to my kids riding in the back, and that's why I can't find another car to replace it with.

I do 100miles+ Round trip commutes a few times a week... I need to be able to do two round trips without an overnight charge in between for safety...

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

I need to be able to do my usual cannonball run from NY to LA. Quick change battery leasing is the answer. Get the high power battery for weekends. Special low temp ones for winter climates. It could be quite the business.

They will hit the EV credit cap soon after model 3 rolls out, you really think they haven’t figured it out?

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Fully expect an increase in the cap.

It would seem logical that once the mission-e is out, Porsche need an electric crossover ASAP

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Thanks for posting this Macan911. 2020 will be an interesting year when the Mission E arrives.

By the time 2020 rolls around, there will be more interesting stuff to look forward too. This car will be stale by 2020 IMO.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

According to Car magazine, sales of Porsche Mission E start in 2019...

Manufacturers, one by one, at least in France, are stating that 50% of their fleet will go full electric in 2025 angel that is very soon!

Yea, as in we'll have been looking at this car for like 4-5 years by the time it enters production. it will be the LFA of electric cars.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

This car will have 2016 specs and Will be around in 2020. It's a freaking joke if you ask me.

Yep, Tesla should be worried if all the Launches from Big companies are like this.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Model Y is coming and I predict its sales will dwarf the other models if priced reasonably close to the Model 3 prices...

This vehicle, and not the Roadster, should have been shown at the semi debut, if Tesla is serious about becoming a volume automaker. Of course, it is highly debatable the Tesla has the production capacity at Fremont to build additional high volume product.
