Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Emm, this has gone quiet.....bump...not letting this one go.....c'mon people more support, lets make it happen, you will not regret it.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I'm selling my P Car at the moe, but hopefully will have something fast to play in by the time this comes around...

If its possible to book the whole NBR I would be up for that. That would be too good to miss

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

OK, let's get this show on the road.
Based on my tiny poll (not to be confused with something similar-sounding that is ridiculously large and voluminous) seems May and June are equally popular periods to do this.

Lets go for May-June and let's decide on a specific date when we know what is possible regarding leasing the track/doing a special arrangement.

To get the best deal, we need people with the right connections to talk to the people at NBR.
I have a friend who has +1000 laps there, but I dont know if he is well connected - perhaps he can help guide us or similar.

Harryo2B: Are u the Man here? Anyone else?
    Let's see some hands!

When we know what options we have, we decide what to do.
    Does that sound OK?
Regarding taking one's car to NBR:
There is no doubt that driving your own Porsche (or any car for that matter) at the NBR is a special thing - especially if it's your first time.
Having said that, you way also want to concider "just" being a guest and riding as passenger in some of the other cars, if e.g. you have too far to go, dont wannna risk totalling your new car - or is named N Berry, and dont want to put milage on your car, fearing that it will decrease in value by 1000$ pr. mile

Seriously, I see this first and foremost as a great opportunity to meet some old and new friends, tell eachother some lies and have a few beers and a latte Driving the NBR in some cool cars is just an added bonus as I see it.

So come as you are - with or without a car

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Dr. Phil, in no way am I the "MAN" but I am always willing to help a hardcore group of car junkies get together and shoot the [beep] and stare at cars. So if i need to make some calls or something I am willing to do so but unfortunately I have no connections...

Harry, just do it, lets get this show on the road.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Who could ( is willing to ) get the info about renting the track ?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Dunno if it's even possible to rent NBR... think it's already booked by the few trackdays, public days and the industry pool...

maybe consider a "normal" track? Spa Francorchamps or Hockenheim or the NBR GP track?

My people are working on it (I asked a friend of mine to ask his fellow Ringers ).
I hope to have some options within a few days.

BUT if anyone else have connections - or want to help out - please take action! May/June may seem far away, but we need to move quickly on this if we want our own day/slot on the Nordschleife.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    Excellent idea
    Count me in!!!

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Just a proposal, the more people help thincking the better the chance of a succesful project.
Renting the NBR will be rather impossible or way too expensive... But maybe this is an idea:
The weekend of 23 till 25th of may we have the Yearly porschedays at Francorchamps.
Three days for porsche only drivers at this legendary track. Divided in three categories:
    -discover
    -sport
    -race

Yoy can subscribe for 1,2 or 3 days

Everyone get lots of opportunities to drive in his categorie.

Since Spa is only app 115km away from the NBR it is good possible to meet +/- 1000 porsches in three days at Spa, race there and afterwards discover the Eiffelmountains and drive to the NBR to discover the NBR for one or more laps.
Racing on the NBR is really dangerous if you're not a regular visitor to this track. (thinck Gnil and Cram can give more comments on that)

When organising such an event i still have a roadbook from some years ago wich can lead you by little turning roads to the NBR, starting from SPA.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Circuit Days are running an exclusive trackday at the Ring on Monday 19th November. Circuit Days are a professional outfit (they are ATDO members) so we'll be well looked after.

As of now there are 30 or so places available. You can book online at the website. I will also ask Ron Simmons if he can attend. Ron is an exceptional driving instructor and ringmeister!

The cost is Pounds299 ($600, Euro 430). If we can get a reasonable list of people together (10+) we might be able to negotiate a group discount (maybe 10%).

Add your name below if you are up for it.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    One more option...

RMA are running a 2 day event at the Ring on November 8th and 9th (Thursday and Friday).

Cost is Pounds675 ($1350, Euro 970) for both days...although I expect you can book 1 day for half the cost if you wish.

If you can add your name below + the date you would prefer.

Sounds good - but what about us poor Rennteamers who don't run Porsches?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    passenger seat?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    fyi NBR rentingfees:

    weekdays 8a.m. - 5p.m. = 13.030,50 Euro (incl. VAT)
    day on weekend 8a.m. - 5p.m. = 18.516,40 Euro (incl. VAT)

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    That sounds good -

    38 cars @ Pounds250/ea for Weekday

    and

    53 cars @ Pounds250/ea for Weekend day.

Does Pounds250 (350 Euro ) sound reasonable? I think it does.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

That's better than I exdpected - I'd sort of mentally put aside Euro 1000 for a once in a life time track experience....

That's alot of money, but if we could get 50 people or more on a weekday, it might be ok...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Sounds like the thing to do is to take deposits for commitment from Rennteamers for the 'Ring, so we can ensure a critical mass of participants (e.g., 50-100). If my GT2 isn't built/ready for spring '08 Euro delivery, then a rental 911 Turbo (even a 996/993 TT/GT2 would suffice) or RUF 911 Turbo variant could work. Anyone know of companies that rent such vehicles (besides PAG's travel/special services division)?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Al - I rented a brand new (500 miles) 996 in 2001 from Avis at the Frankfurt Airport. I think they still do that.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I also thought about joining Manthey Racing for one of their trackdays as an option.
They allow 80 cars, have marshalls, race instructors (really good ones!) and are probably the most knowledgable anywhere when it comes to Porsche racing.
(They are official Porsche partners and take part in Porsche R&D).
It's more costly than us renting the track alone for a day (if we are enough cars) but it's also potentially a whole lot more informative when it comes to getting the most out of our cars.

I thought about getting Sabine Schmitz onboard to give us some tips, hints and perhaps do a couple of laps in some of our cars, so we can see how it should be done, and what a sportscar can really do if someone good drivees it.
I dunno at all if this is possible, but I will try and contact her and see.
First we need to settle on a date.
I'm awaiting news from a friend on the rental/date etc issue.

    Meanwhile:
Loe: Do you have a schedule for when the track is available for a closed Rennteam day? Do they even have any slots available?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

dayumm, wish i could come. too far to fly for a track day imo.

IMO it would be lame just to meet up for one day.
We should meet Friday, go out and eat and have fun.
Drive all saturday, go out at night and experience the very special atmosphere in the town of Nürburg - and definately try to go see or drive the GT track on sunday.
    A whole weekend of Rennteamism.
    I will have nothing less!

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I'm sooo up for this Doc, it's got to happen it really has. Cleared it with the little lady so the RT'ers cannot let us down now.

I wonder if there is a method of paying for instance a deposit into some form of escrow account managed by lets say joint/multiple members (pillars of society of course) or perhaps the Ring itself.

We could do with establishing some idea of the numbers of genuine interest once we have an idea of cost/dates that is...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Al you can rent from companies like avis ect, but beware they have special contract clauses regarding the NBR...

And yes they do check the presence of their hire cars there...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    Hi guys,
I'm following your discussions and at the moment my first concern is where to find a car to rent to attend the trackday. I do not want to risk totalling my 996TT since i'm not such a skilled driver and i do not know the track.
Anybody knows where is it possible to rent a GT3 or something like that?

Second thing: in case of interest i could also try to have a word with few professional drivers to join us and guide us through the track as instructors.
In case this sounds good to you just let me know ok?

Last thing: i and a lot of people that are interested in this event prefer Spa to the NBR for obvious reasons: safety is higher, it's faster to learn the track and it's at the same time a wonderful track.

    Cheers

    Good questions.
Here are some hopefully useful answers:

First of all I have suggested the NBR Nordschleife because of its legendary status. SPA does not provide this, even tho SPA is a great track.

As for using your own car, I'd say go for it.
The NBR is not dangerous at all - meaning that you dont have to be a skilled driver to survive it. Remember it's a public road and even schoolbuses and slow cars go there.
The track itself is only dangerous if you drive your ass off without having the skill to do so. Be cocky or reckless and you will get punished.
Have respect for the track and drive within your abilities and you will be more than fine.
I know NBR is nicknamed "Die Grüne Hölle" - The green Hell - for a reason, but it's not a description you have to be scared of as a sensible driver.

What is potentially dangerous at NBR is the number of MCs that drive faster than hell, and the fact that the first 2-3 laps you will spend more time watching the rear view mirror than the road - because you will be going a lot slower than the experienced Ringers.
Hence you will have a few slow, but intense laps in the beginning, and very quickly you will get the hang of it.

The best thing you can do, is take a ride with someone who really knows the Ring, and use him as co-pilot.
Trust me, you will be fine - and it would be a damn shame not to take your own car to the NBR - especially a TT. You will love it!

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I agree with Dr. Phil. The ring itself is not dangerous. It's your own ego and possibly the people around you that can make it dangerous. So if we should be able to rent it exclusively for Rennteam, there won't be a lot of people so that you might not even see anyone else on a round.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Silvershadow, I forgot to mention, that getting co-pilot for NBR wont be a problem. A friend of mine is extremely experienced and he will surely attend our meet, and there are many more both Rennteamers and friends of other Rennteamers who know NBR like the back of their hand.
