R8 or wait for 911 facelift

Need advice, pondering on whether I should place an order for a 911 facelift in march 08 or place an order for a Dec 08 delivery Audi R8 pls help

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I'd have thought you could run an R8 for three months without losing too much. Biggest issue is surely that 997 is an unknown at this stage. So why not leave deposit for 997 and decide when you need to spec it?

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I would go for the 997 facelift, by the time you can get into your hands an R8, the facelift 997 will be in the market....and for sure it will kick the R8

Also you will save a little cash

I would NEVER get a R8 instead of the 997 Carrera S Facelift. I would however get a R8 Turbo/RS/GT (whatever the name will be) when Audi introduces it around 2009.

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

Why wait for facelift? Unless you're going to sell the car soon after buying it; it makes no sense at this point. Also, I would only _consider_ waiting for it if I knew _exactly_ when the FL was coming.

Everybody will eventually be outdated. The cosmetic changes aren't that big a deal, Direct Injection isn't gonna change your life, PDK will might take a few years to become reliable.

All this points to bite-the-bullet and get the car now to enjoy it.

One sticking point: I'd HATE to be the guy who gets the _LAST_ car produced with the "old" look; I'd definitely wait as long as it takes to avoid being that guy.

    I think you shouldn't buy any 911.

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

    Yea, get the R8 facelift

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I was thinking about the R8, too.

Problem, see this car in real and how tiny it is. Yes - great sound, great interior and still a great show. Anyway - in one year, its just another Audi. A Porsche is always a Porsche!

first, let me say, it's really good to see your name and input on this great forum RC... i'm curious if you've driven the R8 (would love to hear your impressions) and why you would still get the 997 over one (i would prefer the porsche myself i think but would love your much more learned thoughts. thanks and again nice to see your input..

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I guess it's wait for the facelift then !

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

wait for the 911 facelift, in the meanwhile, buy and drive the R8

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

Wait for the 997 facelift... in the meantime buy an Audi TT - most people can't tell the difference between that and an R8 anyway... <grin>

    I own/owned four: had a 911T and a 997S, now I have a 997TT and 986S.

    That's why we have fun.

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I think the R8 already looks dated; I just don't get this car, performance is nothing great, given that it is all new, and the looks I can live without!

It wasn't drawing much of crowd at the Frankfurt Auto show today either, they were sprinkled all over the place. Black was the best color since it hides the ugliness (imo) of the car best (imo).

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

I wouldn't compare the R8 to a 911 at all. They look and feel so different. The R8 is a 2 seater mid engine sports coupe. Compare it to the V8 Vantage. That is a more meaningful comparison. The R8 certainly performs better than a V8 Vantage BUT the V8 Vantage beats it in the looks department IMHO.

I sat in a R8 earlier this Summer and I must say, it felt very cramped inside and doesn't feel IMO twice as special as an Audi TT but costs twice as much.

    Just my 2 cents...

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

My best advice is that when you're unsure, it means you haven't let the choice "stew" long enough in your noggin... It'll come to you...

I've always found that my rushed and impulsive purchase decisions alwasy resulted in an initial "high", followed by an aftermath of self-doubt and frustration as the reconciliations with the other car I had in mind are still grinding away in my head unresolved. It doesn't matter how wonderful the car I got is, I'm never totally happy until my brain has worked through all its machinations... But hey, that's me!!!

Just don't get flustered by all the "hurry, hurry, hurry" advice... It's not like trying to hook-up at a bar before it closes.... the cars will still be there tomorrow, and the next day, and so-on..

Even the hook-up companion may still be there tomorrow
As we say in Germany: "Eile mit Weile" (rush unhurried)

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

    Or in Latin: "Festina lente"

    Yeah..., good one.

I also like the (related?) aphorism, "There is no solution because there is no problem."

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

The wait for an R8 is until 2009 so buy a 911 now/March and enjoy driving it until your R8 arrives

It will be interesting to see what R8 values do when the V10 R8 comes and the 911 facelift happens.....

    As in most blind people?

Re: R8 or wait for 911 facelift

Somehow suggesting a TT as an R8 stopgap seems much like wearing your wife's panties until your boxers get back from the cleaners....
