Hence why Porsche repackaged the 'base' car as a Carrera T, that doesn't sound like a base car anymore

All of the 991 models are fast enough and handle well enough for street use. Get what you like, even the newest RR Evoque is as fast as that vintage holy of holies 71 911S. Any new 991 in most hands will seldom see its upper limits used.

I’m now at a point in my life where my 2 seaters like GT3/GT4/Spyder just isn’t practical enough to be used even once a month, and the whole speed thing just isn’t that important on the road anymore. So the Carrera T really excites me and I think it’s a good package, base or otherwise.

Why would you get a T over a rear-wheel drive GTS with manual?

Because I don’t need the extras that the GTS provides. If money grows on tree then of course you’d go for a GTS, but given the GTS is a whole M140i more expensive than the T here, I don’t see the sense in it for me.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

price tag difference as simple as that.

here in UAE, price difference between base T and base GTS is 19,000 Euros. that's a lot of options...Smiley

I agree that base 911 has more than enough speed for daily commute.

Happy for those that will own a 911T, or any 911.

went through that phase two decades ago , where trying to get from point A to point B ( on our world famed scenic local weekend drive roads)  as " spiritedly " as possible just shortened the period of having fun , as well as a giving a sense of passive teleportation once there due to neccesary focused " tunnel vision " used for minimizing risks along the way

it more fun at this point for me  to " enjoy the ride " when behind the wheel , so how a car feels to the hands , on the seat and even a chassis'  sporty vibrations ( not to mention sound ) at 3-5/10ths is more imporatant than at 8/10ths in the same spot  ... plus the side benefit of better enjoying our iconic local views of Monterey/Carmel Pacific Ocean shores , winding redwood forest roads minutes above my home in the heart of Silicon Valley or Napa wine country touring ...all within 60-90 minutes !

New cars are way too fast to enjoy. If you hit the throttle and instantly achieve 60mph then it is just no fun anymore. From all my cars I loved the 997C2 X51 the most so far. It was just right. On country rows you could Rev it and switch it through some gears and still almost road legal on the way. New cars are too fast. Two factors: 1st - don't feel the speed and 2nd - if you want to feel it you are way above whats legal.

OK - and now we are back to the topic. The T makes sense but it lacks the image. It is the same problem what the Cayman or Boxster has. Probably the best and most fun Porsche's out there. It is the image which keeps people away buying it. And the T is in the same league of being a great package with the wrong perception.

But then...why not choose a GT3 Touring instead of the T? yes

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

GT3 Touring is of course the much better car , but also much, much more expensive ..... and probably not available anymore

I was talking in the Carrera range for a car used as a real DD and not tracked .

I am not sure the perception of the T is a problem . The general public will not see any difference and probably even think it is a very special model when they see the T inscription  .

I got myself a fantastic 991.2 GTS Convertible deal, I am pretty sure that some other GTS deals (not C4 though) are possible, maybe even close to the 911 T which apparently has high demand. No need to go for a 911 T instead. This may be valid for Germany only of course.

How is selling fewer cars clever marketing?  Is the lack of T models supposed to drive people into buying other models they don't really want?

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Reaaaaaally ? A GTS convertible ? No way ! Smiley C'mon, you spread the word quickly. Smiley ...

Coming back to the "T" - at least in Germany, if and when, the "T" really becomes a success story - though  being a tweaked C2 only, then this would be good news. There are so many horse power - junkies out there nowadays, that a 370 hp base carrera is not really appreciated. Wait and see.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

well, would these T buyers alternativelyhave bought a C2 ? I doubt that (at least in Germany).

Apparently, they need to move cars (991.2) to get rid of parts, keep 991.2 production still going and make room for 992...Smiley

Here are some lease offers for Porsche cars in Germany (sorry, in German) but usually, you can get even better offers if you're not looking for the best selling model and/or if you're lucky:  https://www.sixt-leasing.de/porsche

THE 911 to have is a GT3 touring with PDK and rear seats (until a convertible version of it is made).

Sadly that car does not exist...
