    Our car's 1st birthday

..so is it worth having an annual check even though the car is not due a service until it's reached it's second birthday or 20,000 miles? Didn't get a 1st year letter with our last car... Amazing how the time has gone, seems like yesterday when we flew to Stuttgart to collect our pride and joy

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Happy Birthday! But save your Pounds158! Your baby is fine and that money would be better spent on cake, ice cream and fuel.

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

The pollen filter might be worth changing though - I don't know how much they get clogged up with lowish mileage? It's probably fine though. Noticed the difference when mine was done, but then mine goes out all weathers and does 15k a year.

Not offered, but I'd possibly vote for an air-filter change more frequently than necessary. Anyone reckon that this would give a noticable difference in performance and fuel consumption?

Oh, and Happy Birthday by the way. You must be so proud!

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Not noticed any difference in my cabin air after the first service and pollen filter change just short of 20k miles, and 2 years old.

Interesting they are offering an oil change - bowing to public pressure from owners who prefer to look after their cars for longevity rather than lower costs ??

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Car booked in for check and oil change. Going in this afternoon. As an engineer I well appreciate the saying that if you look after machinery it is more likely to look after you.

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Exactly why i changed the oil and filter myself at 10k miles, took my own oil to the OPC for the first service and will change it again myself after 30k miles

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

    Happy Birthdy DC
I only received the "tombstone" from the OPC as a birthday present. As for the oil change: doesn't the manual say, either after 30,000 km OR after one year, whatever may come first ? So your car should be due for an oil change anyway.

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Uk oil changes are 20k miles or 2 years - keeps the costs down so lease/life costs look competeitive

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Just back from OPC car all checked out and as expected no problems. BUT whilst waiting fpr 2 hours for the work to be done (wasn't worth a loaner as by the time I'd have driven home it would have been time to go back) their new 3.4S demonstrator was fitted with the Sports Exhaust and it's LOUD!! less raucous than the 997 PSE but a wonderful wail / bellow /howl. Tried not to sound too enthusiastic when I went back to the parts guy and mentioned the "D" word (you get thrown out of a Porsche garage in the UK for less) and if the numbers are right when they ring me back on Monday then the car is back down there pronto for PSE retrofit

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

That's why they sent you the letter, to lure you down there so you could be tempted by the PSE....

They recognise a genuine Porsche mug when they see one...

Well I've taken the plunge. Car booked into OPC for retro-fitting of Porsche Sports Exhaust System (less the on/off switch). It will be permanently on (not complying with ECE Drive By Noise Regulations) . Been warned that it is also too loud, at 106dB for certain track days.

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

    Congrats DC
Are you sure about the 106 db ?
A lot of tracks on the "Continent" set a limit @ 95 db

That's what the Service Manager told me this morning, I guess that's the maximum figure. Hence his warning about track days. 997 PSE also 106dB. It was certainly loud approaching max revs. Hence the need for auto on/off when factory fitted to comply with the regs.

The switch can be retrofitted later but costs around Pounds200 alone. (1.8hrs labour + parts). No cost saving if installed at the same time as the PSE, so I thought I'd see how I got on without it first. Switch already there if you have Sport Chrono, as PSE is automatically activated in Sport mode, along with PASM sport mode.

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Can't wait to read your PSE review, I haven't seen any reports on PSE with the Boxster S.

    Likewise!

    Re: Our car's 1st birthday

Taking car in tomorrow on my way to Bournemouth Airport (I'm flying to Scotland for a meeting in Greenock AM Wednesday) and back PM Wednesday, hopefully to collect car, if not OPC will give me an overnight loan car and pick mine up Thursday. Friday AM early off to Brittany for a week on the 08:45hrs Portsmouth - Caen ferry. I'll try and post some first impressions before I go.
