964C2:Grant, I was making a joke
I know - I was replying to SciFrog who asked about distilled water.

It seems Porsche used "special" non-standard tires for the Nürburgring record... First press cars now have Dunlop tires (see ASBC for example) - not the Michelin used for the "record" lap... Also, Sportauto now writes that Porsche will offer a special track tire "like the one used for the record lap" later... Smells fishy....

I believe there are going to be some hurt feelings and upset buyers if the GT2 RS starts testing with Dunlops or something because those most definitely aren't going to achieve the NR levels of performance.
All NR times are now suspect. Everyone is using new and sometimes questionable tires.
In the last generation of tires, Dunlops were a little faster than Michelins, but didn't last as long.

Carlos from Spain:I heard these well a special version of Cup2 more oriented towards track use than the regular Cup2 that will be available for the GT2RS

Then the "record lap" was a setup... Porsche wanted people to believe this lap was done on regular tires. If not, they cheated.

To be fair all the recent cars doing ring lap records had a similar setup on tires (non-standard tires offered as optional tires) so for comparison purposes with these cars (Performante, AMG, etc) its the time to be used. Still, they need to offer the time with the standard Dunlop tires, like they have done with other 911 models like the GTS in which the release the times with the standard PZeros and with the optional Corsas.

The Sportauto info seems to indicate that the Michelins will be the faster tires. Very strange all this
Grant is talking about the Michelins offered as OEM on the 991.1 GT3 and 981 GT4 vs. the equivalent Dunlops. Haven't read the Sportauto info, but I suspect they are talking about the OEM Dunlops vs. whatever Michelin tire was used to obtain the N-ring time for the GT2.
All these tire shenanigans are the reason why I don't really care about track times anymore. It is very difficult to compare and take the right conclusion from these times.

Had a chat with Matthias Hoffsummer today, he was my instructor for the Porsche Racing Experience and will be my personal coach again next year when I do the Level 2 and races in Germany. He just finished doing the launch of the GT2RS with journalists.
The GT2RS will be a giant handful at the limit even for him, the Widow Maker moniker is intact, alive and well. Expect many cars to be posted onto crash exotics.
As for tires, Porsche pretty much hoarded the whole supply of N2 spec Cup2s for the launch. Truth is, Michelin couldn't make them fast enough, that's why some customer cars will be shipped with the equivalent Dunlops. Michelin have a deal with Porsche and that's why all record attempts are done on Michelins.

A guy I know who drove the car says that with PSM turned on, the car is fantastic and easy to drive fast, apparently they did an amazing job with the traction control/ESP setup.

Unfortunately, a lot of guys think they are the next incarnation of Michael Schumaker and ( as I heard so many times at track days), ESP is for "pussies".
We had a rule for rookies when racing with cayman CS MR, nobody remove ESP until you beat time the fastest guys with ESP on :)))
Unless you want to drift, or you already know where and when the TC or ESP are slowing you down then there is no point to remove it !!!
I got production slot today and it will be January ! #happy
