The 720S make every other sport car look bad. Impressive.

I would agree that the 720S is currently the best offer in the sportscar market, especially when you consider the performance value customers get for their money. Unbeatable right now.

No matter how they respond, they seem to lag behind, which isn't good.

I heard a few rumors from Porsche and Audi Sport, so I am positive about their reaction but frankly, when I see that Audi sells a R8 V10 Plus Spider for almost 240k in my dealership's showroom and the 720S basically costs only 10k more (Germany, not that much options), it is shocking how expensive the competition is and how they don't seem to understand what customers want. At some point, people will be fed up with the 100th version of a 911... Smiley

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Let's be honest here, I said it before: If the 720S had a better exhaust sound and if the dealer network wouldn't be that scarce in Germany (I have my share of bad experience with the lack of number of dealerships...), I would seriously consider getting a 720S. It is really a very very good offer from McLaren, especially if you don't fully opt this car. I cannot see how the competition will compete at the same price level but I really think that the competition has slept for the past years and now they have been hit hard with the 720S hammer (and 570S hammer...650S hammer...). The 720S will drive a lot of customers away from Porsche and Co. if McLaren plays their cards right.

Why only 4*? Seems like a very biased rating from a German magazine...

0-300 under 20s. Even a few years ago that seemed impossible. Now you can have it for $300k. Amazing. Carbon tub, 100kg lighter than the Ferrari...

Why is the Ferrari faster in Flexibility?

Normally due to torque and or gearing, in this torque is same so must be just gearing.

Keep in mind that unlike P11, the 720S has many aluminum body panels, so the LT should be able to cut significant weight with CF panels.

Gearing. 7th speed on 720S is a pure overdrive.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

As of right now, there is no objectively better car in the segment/price. Since the 675, McLaren has been batting strong and the 720S seems like the homerun.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Sorry but I'd take the Performante over the 720S any day of the week, I could care less about drag race bragging rights or fractions of a second in a track in cars like these, the sensory experience in the road is what matters and for example  the NA engine on the Performante is in another class. Not that the 720S is a bad offering but if having to choose it's an easy choice for me, not that it's necessarily the same choice for someone else though.

Have you ever looked into buying an old LP550? Manual transmission, similar engine as the Performante, RWD... probably overall a more involving experience. Many aftermarket exhaust options too.

720S has longer gear ratios. In that flexibility test the 720S is always around -500RPM than 488 GTB.

There is actually one in my city flat's building garage that parks close by mine but its still "too exotic" for me and grabs too much attention for my personal taste. That is why I put so many miles on the GTS, I can use it for everything and its under the radar "enough". Maybe such a car for an ocasional weekend car but it would be hard to justify the expense in my case.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

720S is THE benchmark right now that's for sure performance wise.

It is for all intents and purposes faster than a P1, while it gives up some 180HP to the P1, that 180HP is only in play if the pedal is floored on the P1, otherwise it is a 730HP car that weights more than the 720S.

Sort of the same for the new GT2RS vs the 918. The GT2RS gives up some 190HP to the 918 but it is lighter and corners much harder. That's why the GT2RS is the new Ring King.

So the new question is, how do the 720S do when compared head to head against the GT2RS?

Yes, that is the one I wanted (or the more rare 560) - basically a Balboni for a much lower price.  Only looked at it after having a great drive in the first Gen R8 V10 with manual gearbox...

You know there is no correct answer for that question right?

What is real? DIN certified weight that Porsche uses?

Normal customer car weight? with light weight options or normal options?

Or the McLaren way with bare car and no fluid?

Or the Ferrari way where in addition to what McLaren does, it is also equipment with 100k worth of lightweight carbon options?
