    Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

    Kreso,

Is this false rumour fed to sloppy journalists or do I need to get ready to trade in my RS4?

    http://www.motorauthority.com/cars/audi/audis-rs6-will-get-more-than-571hp/

Perhaps the test mules are programmed for 600+, but the final product?

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

Reportedly , RS6 test mules had as much as 700-750 hp to stress the production cooling system and drive train to the max. The production car is dialed down to 610 hp , but will be advertised as 581 hp to appease the insurance gods, I guess.

Which means, $1000 aftermarket programs will get back to the 700-750 level. Gotta love easy , huge HP bumps on turbo motors ( see 996 Turbo and BMW 335i )
Compare to the M5 and E63, which being normally aspirated, are pretty much stuck at that power level. How many people are gonna spend $20K to tear these 2 expensive motors apart for 20-30 hp gain ?

    Or to appease the tree-huggers?

    Al,

Just add a turbo charger on top of your supercharger .

RS6 will be a very capable car based on all the rumors. However, I've heard that it'll be a limited production like only 700 or so.

So if you want one go down to the dealer and put your deposit down now. I know in Houston, where I'm getting the R8, they have 2 deposit for the RS6 and they're not accepting anymore down payments.

I can't imagine the difference between 581hp and 610hp is going to make any difference to either group

Al, I think you need to swap the RS4 for one of these. There is no place for a Normally Aspirated car in Turbo Al's garage

Oh that too, for sure . You know , 581hp is just a few more than what a Prius has .

    Al,

RS6+ maybe but, AFAIK not the standard RS6. More info early next week...
New RS6 will be ultimate straight line sport saloon but, with its weight it will not be that impressive on any track.
One other thing-fuel consumption. According to my source-RS6 is burning fuel faster then any Cayenne Turbo...

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

    Can expect 800 nm torque?

sounds like BMW need to build a M5 CS (competition package)

    A new milestone

P.S.: Would you expect the RS6 to outperform the M6? (0-200kph in <14s)?

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

The other question is the tranny. No manual? Even a DSG I hear is in question. But with stock turbochargers, there's probably room for a little aftermarket increase in boost.

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

    Markus,
Factory 0-200km/h time for RS6 is very optimistic IMHO(14.5s)... Remember that R8 NEVER achived 14.9s as promissed by Audi...

    Al,
Gearbox is good old 6speed TIP with new software. Increase in boost? I do not think so... Why? Engine is already termally pretty much at the upper limit...

OK, 14.5s. Not bad. Could be achievable, don't you think so? A8 with 450hp is in the 17s range already

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

We will see how fast RS6 is pretty soon...

OT. New GT2 is really very fast on the track. You can expect some amazing track time by Sport Auto...

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

14.5 sec to 200km/h, thats slower than sportauto did with the M5 (13.8 sec). Of course the RS6 will be faster than that, dont you think?

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

    With over 2000kg weight?
BTW, RS6 Avant seems to be the first one, saloon in Geneva 2008 with current A6 facelift...

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

Well, with 580hp and lots of torque, I at least expect something around 13 seconds. but I wait for official info before I talk to much.

anyway, N-ring below 8.10 min should be possible.

Have only gotten 8MPG in my <5mi intra-SF daily commute, whether in >600hp 599 or 65....or in my current, allegedly more sensible <<600hp CL63.....and 12-13MPG in my fwy/twisties driving w/each....

My current <600hp, <V12 commuter car is my "nod" to pesky Prius-G550 environmentalists ....but after my CL65 arrives in Oct will simply explain that the V12 actually gets same/better mileage vs 63...as 65 needs to work less hard going up those steep SF hills....and I'm doing my part to avert a recession in Germany ....

BTW, at least in CA/NYC, seems like insurance costs on 599/65 are incredibly cheap for those w/spotless driving records (which many repeat buyers seem to possess )....may Darwinian selection prevail....

Mfrs in EU need to realize that US is land of cheap cars/leases/fuel/insurance....and guys willing to buy brilliantly-engineered 600hp+ commuter cars....doubt many in SF/LA have need/desire for AWD, but I suspect a few characters in Manhattan/Greenwich "need" a latest-tech 600hp+ AWD commuter car/limo for their gruesome winters (though I wonder how neutered these cars are on those girlie winter wheels/tires )....

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

I thought they said it officially gets 580hp.

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

I love Audi's but honestly they need to put this thing on a diet. The spy videos of the RS6 on the track suggest it is a very hefty vehicle. So what do you think...4500lbs.? Don't get me wrong it will be fast but not very nimble. The prior RS6 and the RS4 also suffer from weight. They need to use more of the aluminum tech employed in the R8 and S8 on the RS6. Otherwise, IMHO it will just be another overpowered ubercruiser.

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

It's perfect - esp in that Sprint Blue / silver int with black carpets .Now if I can only get Nokian to make their WR AWPs in XL load rating for that car , then I've got the ultimate skimobile for Tahoe , where the turbos mean no power loss at 7000 ft winter or summer.

Chip it and I'm at 725 hp for a family wagon !

OK, can't argue with a 725hp ski wagon. However, I heard few avants will make it to the US. Also you might want to get a lift kit or adjustable suspension for those snowy days.

Actually, only kidding. But I still think a diet would be good for the RS6.

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

I don't buy Audis for light weight. I buy them for its "heavy" Quattro system , styling that only appeals to a discerning design eye, superb interior layouts ,fit and finish and straight line stabilty . I buy MBZs, BMWs and Porsche for their own attributes and I don't want them to be like each other, ever . They should are all different.
Seems like on car boards, everyone wants every car to be exactly the same from every brand matched to ones own idealized perfect car .

I like Audi's for the same reasons but I don't find their relative heft to be a virtue. Similarly, I agree that every brand should have it's own "flavor." For the same reason I also choose to own a truck, sedan and sports car and don't expect one vehicle to do it all.

Re: Audi RS6 to get 600+PS/HP?

None of the German makes are lightweight leaders , although BMW , like Ferrari, is working on the expensive proposition of " engineering lightness" into their next gen cars , not the cheaper way of engineering horsepower and bigger brakes to compensate.

Geez , the current VW R32 is 3600 lbs ! My 1978 VW Scirocco weighed 1750 lbs ! Customers today want all their car gizmos and latest bragging-rights technology . Combine with current safety standards and that all literally adds tons of weight.
