Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

thanks for the data nima, i would be curious to see the 430 scuderia time

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

    Thanks.

for some reason, the more manufacturers push their Nring times, the less relevant I find the ring to be to daily driving, and the more I feel the cars may be compromised for the end user in order to meet those figures.

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

moogle, having driven the SL , its very easy to drive and perfectly suited for everyday driving

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

Ferrari F430 Scuderia allegedly did the ring in 7:35 in a factory test.

20 seconds better than the stock F430 with sport tyres which was tested by Sportauto?

    Can't really believe that.

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

It's plausible considering how many improvements went into the it.

The lap was probably driven by the same driver who did 7:32 in the GT2

    Walter?
NO, NO! It Scuderia was Michael Schumacher! Since he is a better driver then Walter that means that good old Horst will make 7.45min in Scuderia and 7.40min in GT2...

Horst and 7.45 in a Ferrari?

    Never ever!

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

I would honestly love to see Schumacher do some serious laps at the ring with the Scuderia. Wouldn't surprise me if this rumour is true, seeing that the car will be launch by none other than MS himself.

Lets not compare Sport Auto times and internal tests with MS at the wheel.

    599 - 7:36 vs 7:47 by SA
    F430 Scuderia : 7:35 vs ???

I never knew MS does the official testing for Ferrari.

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

Well, I am not really sure about the F430 Scuderia, but he did test a 599 on the ring, there was even a photo.

And is it really official ? Rather internal.

Recently drove G SL....and though improved vs then-new G I had (and drove some 3K mis) some ?3-4yrs ago....found G SL utterly useless for daily use in SF region....major ground clearance issues on steep hills/inclines; weak mid-range tq; sloppy egear; poor brake pedal feel; lackluster stability (even at <100MPH) on bumpy, hilly, dense-traffic fwys; poor visibility for rapid lane changes in traffic/on steep hills.....

Suspect anyone who has used 599 as a daily commuter and wkend car will scoff at many alleged sportscars' claims of daily-useability....and relevance of pseudo-quantitative/pseudo-precise/manipulated (non-street tires, etc etc) NBR times vs actual, qualitative, subjective perf/precision/safety in hands of an amateur owner/driver on urban/suburban public roads where these cars are typically used....

You are confusing momentum and stability. Just because the car doesn't travel like an Exxon tanker in the straight line doesn't mean it is unstable. The Mercedes cars you love to promote so much are simply heavy, meaning hard to upset. That by itself doesn't constitute stability, but simply momentum. I am willing to bet that you can take the G SL and a CL63 and start zig-zagging hard at 100 mph - and see the illusion of stability of the AMG shatter in very short order. By the way, are you serious about the car being unstable at even under 100 mph? My rental Ford Focus diesel had enough stability at 120 mph when trotting around Belgium last month, so I find your findings highly irregular.

You are talking about the one driver whose skill at the wheel Ayrton Senna admired!

    And I don't mean MS!

So what's included in the "kerb weight" of 1500 kg to make up the difference to Lamborghini's claimed "dry weight" for the "Superleggera" of 1330 kg?

Allowing for 90 liters of fuel and (say) 15 liters of oil, all at roughly 0.8 kg/liter, that's one hell of a battery.

Not to mention that they'd need a lot of nerve to quote the car's weight without a battery.

Re: Gallarod SL does 7:46 on Nring

lambocars.com states 90 litres of fuel, 10 litres of engine or and 20 litres for the cooling system. im sure there is more fluids in the car than just that

for some reason, the more manufacturers push their Nring times, the less relevant I find the ring to be to daily driving, and the more I feel the cars may be compromised for the end user in order to meet those figures.

The Nordschleife is similar to a fast one-way mountain road with mixed surfaces and bumps. The Ring times are a relevant measure of real world prowess.

    yes, but two issues.

    1. the ring times are only valid if the car provided to the mag is COMPLETELY stock.

    2. who is gonna go around and boast about ring times? 7:43 for the Z06? Id like to meet a Z06 owner that can actually pull that off. most owners (if any) wont be getting sub 8 minutes.

    1. The benchmark Sport Auto times are for stock cars (manufacturer claims are dubious).

    2. The driving skill of owners is irrelevant in car comparisons.
