    Opinions on custom paint?

I have a 997 4S but looking to get a new one with different spec & individual color. I want a light color, but not a sharp color. My current idea is a very pale yellow, but I would prefer to pick a color that has some Porsche roots. Dunno if I have been dreaming, but as I recall Porsches in the 70:s used to come in some pale yellow?

The 1-off "Nordic Gold" color on the 997 Targa Web Special by Porsche was really nice, but I'd like a more pale color. One that does not scream at you.

Either way I'd be grateful for thoughts on getting a car with a pale light yellow, pale light green or pale light orange. Pics would be super.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

BTW - whilst reading the 997 Turbo brouchure again this evening I spotted that Porsche need 2 months notice for all non-standard colours, and 6 months notice for colour to sample.

Also, here's a pic of Nordic gold I took this week at my OPC:

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Oh wait, that's not Nordic gold, it's the new MY08 Macadamia Metallic. Sorry.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Here's a Signal Yellow vs a Speed Yellow example:

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Porsche will take a considerable time for a Paint To Sample. If it is deemed "too light" then they will reject the color. (It's based upon a matching issue they have with their clear coats over light, non-metallic colors.) But it might slip in if it's just dark enough. I had a nice color in 1981,--Bamboo Beige. Bambus Beige in German. Never showed dirt. Looked great with a dark brown leather interior.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

In the 1960s Porsche had a pale yellow non metalic paint color called Champaigne It looked great with black leather was easy to keep clean...one of my favorite all time colors.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Yuck... Pale yellow always reminds me of a bad infection...

How about a nice champagne metallic?? That would look soft and rich, without being totally un-saleable in the future...

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

    What about this pearlescent color?

Try to find a "Bronzit Beige," on a 1980s BMW: very nice color.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Here's two pictures of my dad's race car. It's Volvo T5R yellow which is very close to BMW M3 Dakar Yellow and looks fantastic. I have seen a new 997 in it, but didn't get a picture. It looked stunning.

Custom colors I think the 911 would look nice in:

    - Royal Purple like the old Plymouth Prowler.

    - Deep metallic bronze.

    - Chrome

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

    Here's a gold plated (?) Boxster.

Something to think about (yeah riiiight).

here are some pics of colours close to champagne (not 100% sure about the names of the colours):
    (1) Comet

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

    (2) Salmon-Diamond

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Anyone knows this colour Not my taste, too Rosé

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

back on the yellow topic - I like this mustard colour (though maybe it looks better/more authentic on the old 911)

Bambus Beige + Cocoa should look awesome Do you have a pic of the Bambus Beige by any chance ?

@ MMD: the Boxster is gold plated indeed (showcar of a jewelry)

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Many TIA Dan, super nice of you
@ MMD: yes, the Comet is a great colour (sort of timeless, rich, but not flashy) Should go well with Cocoa also (hehe, I just love chocolate )

It's crazy - everytime I see one of these special colours I start torturing my mind with the question, which exclusive colour I should get on my next P-car Maybe it would make more sense first to decide whether it will be a Boxster or a GT3 - LoL

I think you want to make is simple. Just find one of those classsic colors which are "timeless." E.g. Interior designers know exactly what this means so you wind up with a house with colors, materials, furnishings and designs that look good "forever." Funny that the Germans "invented" this stuff (Bauhaus).

"and now for something completely different..."

Here's a "cl ASS ic" color:

Dan, You have got to be kidding? The formula paint that Porsche use is different to all other car manufacturers who don't have matching problems with light colours, then again perhaps Porsche' paint is different to every other manufacturer - that's the reason it chips so easily and rubs off when you polish it with your trouser leg

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Here's my old 1981 911SC-Turbo from the 80s. Bamboo (Bambus) Beige mit dark brown leather interior. Will try to scan in some better shots of the interior to show the color contrasts. It was a beautiful combination back then.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Here is an example of "Light Yellow".

There's a picture in a book of mine that might be closer to what you're looking for, but I'm not sure of the name. I will do some research. I understand wanting to keep it "Porsche authentic".

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

I forgot to include the color code, which is 117.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Here, you can see a picture of a 356 cab in "Champagne Yellow", color code 111.

That's not the Nordic Gold. Looks like the "Macadamia Metallic". A standard metallic available for 911 Turbo.

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

I really like the Bamboos-Beige & the Volvo T5R. Thanks! Made me find http://www.911c1.de/porsche/Technik/farben/farbcode_braun.htm with more details on previous Porsche colors. (Click each color at the top for more). The same site also has the leather colors!

    Re: Opinions on custom paint?

Found this pic of a bamboo-beige 928. Looks great!

Neat building architecture. Where is that located?
