Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifying

One of M Schumacher biggest critics has now turned into the "new Schumacher" by employing the same "dirty tricks" as MS did sometimes. Bastard

During the last qualifying (Q3) with less than two mintutes to go, Alonso got the ok to go back out for his last try, but remained stationary for many seconds, with Lewis Hamilton waiting behind him, before he went back out resulting in that Hamilton ran out of time before his last try and couldn't complete a fast lap while Alonso took pole.

Ron Dennis looked so mad that he was about to blow up after qual, and Lewis was very upset and in the pressconference.
Let's sit back and see what happens...

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

I can`t believe that Alonso was one of my favorite drivers. What he did today is intolerably, I really hope he will pay for that and will be beaten by Hamilton in the championship.

I think with that move he won today, but he will lost team support in comming races; and driver without full team support, cant manage a lot.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

I hope to god that this is not true.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

It is true. I just spoke on the phone to a friend who works for the Aguri F1 team. He confirms that Alonso 'hogged' the pit after he changed his tires, which ruined any chance Hamilton may have had to change tires and go for a final 'flying' lap.

It's not true sportsmanship, but even Schumi had employed similar 'rogue' tactics in the past.

Alonso blames team for pit hold-up:
    http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=40267

    Quote:
"The team was holding me back in this," said Alonso.

"We tried to have a little bit of space, we had the Ferrari, in two stops, in front of us."

Television coverage of the incident appears to be in contrast to the Spaniard's view of events.

As Alonso sat impassively in the pits, Hamilton was forced to wait for nine seconds after the Spaniard's car service had been completed.

This despite McLaren personnel, including team principal Ron Dennis, frantically waving at their driver to vacate the box.

Alonso had behaved in a similar way during his first stop in the Top Ten shoot-out.

Afterwards Dennis was furious, grabbing Alonso's Spanish-speaking trainer and marching him down to Parc Ferme to speak to his driver.

Alonso has realized that he is only second (or third) best. Hard to realize for a guy like him, I am sure...

His only remaining chance is foul play

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

I guess, it is ironic though that he was one of the strongest critics of M Schumacher after Monaco last year (when MS apparently blocked the track in qualifying). To me this was just as bad as what MS did last year.

It just goes to show what a self-centered whining little b***ch Alonso really is

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

It's not alonso's fault. The pit crew kept him in the stand while hamilton was right behind him.

It's the team's decision. They wanted to make sure alonso would get out at the right moment to avoid traffic. I believe that's the reason for holding alonso in the pit. But they screw up.

Bad team decision. It's a ridiculous mistake but what Ferrari di to massa was even worst. Massa screwed up but it's team too.

Interesting season for us though. I like what I'm seeing. F1 is fun to watch nowadays and it's been a long time since we could say this.

Not true - they raised the stop sign (lolipop) and Alonso stayed still for several more seconds...

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

Alonso is an arse and this whole incident shows what a coward he is and how intimidated he is by Hamilton.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

damn! and I used to dislike Montoya!

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

At the end he is showing that he is in need to using everything he can, legal or not, to fight against Hamilton and McLaren itself.
    I don't like this behaviour....

Thats bad excuse.. He could go on track immediately and drive slower in warm up lap to make sure he wont have traffic in last lap. But he waited longer in pits to make sure Hamilton wont be able to do another lap.

It actually is Alonso's fault. As a matter of fact, the incident is being investigated as we speak:

    Stewards investigating Alonso's hold-up

By Pablo Elizalde Saturday, August 4th 2007, 15:09 GMT

The Hungarian Grand Prix stewards are reviewing the incident involving Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton during Saturday's qualifying.

Alonso took a controversial pole position from teammate Hamilton after the rookie was unable to complete his final flying lap due to the Spaniard delaying his exit from the pitlane.

The two-time champion was waved to get going by his mechanics, but he stood still for some 10 seconds while Hamilton waited behind him. The delay meant Hamilton was unable to complete his final run in time.

After qualifying, the FIA decided to investigate the incident, and team boss Ron Dennis was called by the stewards.

The stewards also asked to review the radio communications related to that pitstop."

Good - I hope Alonso gets a penalty and is moved off the pole...

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

    From f1-live.com:

    Quote:

Stewards at the Hungarian grand prix on Saturday afternoon were investigating why Lewis Hamilton ran out of time to defend his provisional pole position.

Anticipating the development, it is understood that McLaren boss Ron Dennis personally escorted Fernando Alonso's physiotherapist Fabrizio Borra to FIA officials here in Budapest.

It is believed that Borra, despite the fact that the lollipop was raised and mechanics were ushering the Spaniard's car out of the pit box, gave Alonso a signal when enough time had elapsed so as to cause team-mate Hamilton to run out of time to complete his out lap in the dying minutes of qualifying.

Despite the McLaren one-two on Saturday, Dennis and Hamilton's father Anthony were a picture of fury after the incident, while championship leader Hamilton said: "It definitely needs a good explanation.

"I will definitely ask the team when I go back and have the debrief.

"Your guess is as good as mine," the Briton told reporters. "I'm not angry, I'm curious as to what's gone on."

Can't see Alonso keeping his McLaren seat at the end of the season if this turns out to be true

Lol true. This is nothing but typical Shumi behavior.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

    Makes sense.
RD main interest here is to be sure that BOTH cars start in teh front row... by blaming LH everything will be as is now. BUT if FA did block LH it is against team priorities to let every1 know because it oculd en in one of his drivers being penalized and that is bad for the team.

Exactly! Ron will do what's best for the team and will protect BOTH his drivers no matter what. Even Alonso did act like a coward Ron would never throw him to the wolfs by pointing fingers.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

Alonso behaves less and less like a champion with each event. Pathetic behaviour from somebody very scared by the fact he will be beaten by a team-mate in the same car.
I had some respect left for him, now that is gone.

The guy is an absolute **** !

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

There was speculation that there was team foul play and that Ron Dennis was upset. After Ron Dennis statement nothing matters. He is the boss, he is happy, and that is the rule.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

    hmmmm.....

Hungarian Grand Prix stewards have taken no disciplinary action after investigating the incident involving the two McLaren drivers in Saturday's qualifying session.

The verdict came at 11pm local time and means that Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton will take up their positions on the front row of the grid for Sunday's race.

    Latest development:

The Hungarian Grand Prix stewards have declassified Alonso to the position 6th on the grid and Mclaren can't score any points in tomorrow's race, though Mclaren will go on appeal regarding this last decision to the FIA's court, probably in the course of this month.

Re: Alonso blocks Hamilton in the pits in qualifyi

More than mere respect, I have always liked and supported Alonso since day 1 of his Formula 1 carrier, but what he did today and his overall attitude towards Hamilton and his team this year disappoints me VERY much.

How come they decided to take action after the initial all clear?

    Fishy....
