"No more pure manual". I assume that means things like rev matching and other throttle control schemes during shifting will not be defeatable, as I suspect they are needed for emissions purposes (and turbo spooling purposes).

    Sport-o-Matic!

My dad bought a '68 sportomatic VW bug convertible for my mom as a toy one summer. It might have been the slowest car ever created. I don't think there was a 0-60 as I don't think there was a 60...

The Porsche 911 Sportomatic of that era won the Monte Carlo Rally in heavy snow and was a favourite of Porsche himself, that ancient trivia aside, the news doesn't look good for those wanting a lightweight analog like Porsche.

Just so you all know, the Porsche Sportomatic was almostt like a normal manual except there was no clutch pedal, instead there was a electrical and pneumatic solenoid that actuated the clutch when the gear lever was moved.

A Sportomatic would be actually a nice option but diehard manual fans won't go for it, I'm afraid. No clutch = no manual. Sad.

I owned a 911 Sportomatic for a few years as a classic car. I think it would make a very good concept if revived.

PDK when used in the manual mode is effectively the Sportomatic concept updated in reality is it not? It should not be beyond the abilities of the engineering team to take the MT 7 speed shift stick and connect it to the PDK so that by moving across the gate you select the chosen gear. This would negate the need for paddles for those who prefer the interaction of shifting the stick but who don't want a clutch pedal. If they kept a button beside the stick to select manual or auto modes it would cover all bases.

This is why I mentioned that Porsche is planning some sorts of Sportomatic for the 992. At least this was the rumor since...as shocking as it may sound...there may not be a true manual (with clutch pedal) available anymore for the 992 Carrera models.

The paddles could still remain and since Porsche have the stick it could be modified to be alternatively used in an H gearchanging  mode.

The P/R/N/D modes could be selected with buttons.

I'd love to see them throw out the massive centre console and return the stick to a lower position on the tunnel more in line with the original 911. The new widescreen PCM would integrate nicely into an original style horizontal dash. A simple narrow HVAC control system could sit below with small rotary dial either end for temperature and air flow distribution with buttons for heated/ventilated seats in the middle section. That would make the cabin feel far more spacious and less of a Panamera clone. They'll never do it though as they will lose too much money on deviated stitching, additional leather, Porsche embossed logo or crest on the centre tunnel arm rest etc smiley

RC, you said that the 992 carrera interior would be pretty much the same as the new Panamera (and the new Cayenne) with the exception of the center console!!! You also said that the 992 Turbo interior would be fairly different of the carreras? Can you share/enlight more on this?

    Regards.

October issue of PCA Panorama magazine reports the 992 will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018. Base Carrera jumps to 415 hp. Carrera S will have 465 hp. Headlights will feature matrix LEDs and indicators will be slim OLEDs.

You must miss the throttle, choke and heater levers between the seats.Smiley

Actually a new sportomatic would allow for engine managements.integration and maybe Aston like no lift gear changes, wich Aston offers now with its real manual, but when Porsche offers it on their new Sportomatic likely it wil be a money option.

I wouldn't go quite that far Smiley  I just prefer the feeling of more space in what is still a relatively small cabin. If you've ever sat in a Ferrari 360/430/458 you'll realise that not having a great big centre console really does create a greater impression of more interior space.

No, it will not be same or close to Panamera/Cayenne interior, it will just adopt some of the tech and displays.

The 992 Turbo interior will be similar to the Carrera models but rumors says that digital cockpit graphics will be different and some other stuff in the middle console, etc. too to make a better differentiation vs. the Carrera models. Do not expect a completely different interior or speedo cluster, this won't happen.

I used to love putting on the cruise control on straight, empty highways and stretch across with my feet at the passenger side. If the roads were good you coudl even steer with your left thigh. I went a couple of hundred miles doing that once, never touched the wheel with my hands or the touched the pedals (used the cruise control stalk to change speed). Young and stupid thing to do but still a very cool and memorable afternoon.

You can almost see the interior design of the headlight. As far as the tailights go, i think something is missing but myabe RC can help up. The black tape covering the center, i suppose if for the lettering or a bigger LED reflector for the C4S!porsche-2019-911-c153619072017170548_8_.jpgporsche-2019-911-c153619072017170548_1_.jpg

The big news is the very short front and rear overhang when viewed from the side. You can really see the Lamborghini and R8 sharing the chassis. Very cool the way they did that.

I like what I see, but the front bumper can be disappointing. If it gets familiar design from 718....hmmm....please no.... Porsche finally nailed it with the rear design for their models, but lost it with the front IMHO...718, new Cayenne Smiley, even GT2RS front bumper looks a bit harsh.  Hope they won't make it with the 992.

I met one of these on the autobahn lately with the spoiler deployed. Gave it a whole new look, unfamiliar for a 911 at first sight, but a quite interesting look. Smiley
