OFFICIAL: Porsche 718 GTS models (Oct. 2017)

Porsche is expanding its mid-engine range with the new two-seater 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS. The vehicles’ power has now been increased to 269 kw (365 hp) thanks to a newly developed intake duct and an optimised turbocharger for the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder boxer engine. With these improvements, the engine delivers 11 kW (15 hp) more power than the 718 S model and up to 26 kW (35 hp) more power than its GTS predecessor models with naturally aspirated engines. The new mid-engine sports cars are available with manual six-speed transmission or optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). The GTS vehicles are equipped with a host of options as standard, such as the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear differential lock and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which lowers the body by ten millimetres.

    More power for more performance
The maximum torque of 430 Nm provides even better acceleration and flexibility values. This is available between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm. When combined with the PDK and Sport Chrono Package, the GTS models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The vehicles’ top speed is 290 km/h.

Typical GTS: numerous black elements both inside and out
The GTS models stand out within the 718 model line not only in terms of technology, but also in their visual design. The new Sport Design apron at the front of the vehicle emphasises the vehicles’ sporty character. As is typical for GTS models, the front light modules and the Bi-Xenon headlights are black-tinted. At the rear of the vehicle, the tinted tail lights, black logos, black rear apron and centrally positioned black tailpipes of the standard sports exhaust system give the GTS its unique appearance. Black GTS logos at the base of the doors and 20-inch wheels painted in black (satin finish) complete the side view.

High-quality Alcantara and Porsche Track Precision App
GTS genes also shape the interior. The stopwatch of the Sport Chrono Package (included as standard) is integrated as a central component of the dashboard. Both the driver and front passenger can enjoy sports seats, which feature Alcantara centres as with the other Porsche GTS models. The sports seats Plus with GTS logos on the headrests can be electronically adjusted in two ways and provide increased lateral support and comfort. In addition, the interior features a high proportion of Alcantara, which can be found on the steering wheel trim, centre console and armrests, for example. Furthermore, drivers with a particular passion for sport are assisted by the Porsche Track Precision App (PTPA), which enables the driver to automatically record, display and analyse driving data on their smartphone.

The 718 GTS models are available to order now and arrive in dealerships in mid-December 2017. The prices for the vehicles including VAT and country-specific features in Germany are as follows:
718 Boxster GTS from EUR 78,160
718 Cayman GTS from EUR 76,137

I like it a lot. Front looks very clean. Can you delete the Porsche lettering at the rear? Never been a fan of this black strip. But I like the overall package.

This is actually the new signature look for all future Porsche cars I'm afraid. I kind of like it but I cannot say I'm a big fan.

There is an option to get the PORSCHE letters painted in black. Then they will not be as pronounced as they are in standard silver.

Tried to configure a 718 Boxster GTS, nothing fancy, black with GTS Alcantara interior, standard brakes, BOSE, PDK and PCM. Ended up with almost 100k EUR. Ouch. This won't work.

Always the same issue. This car has no future, especially in its most expensive configurations (S, GTS and so on).

I'd just buy a low mileage 991.2 instead for 100K (or even less as the 992 is right around the corner).

Maybe fitting crappy engines in the Boxster / Cayman is Porsche’s way of restablishing the superiority of the 911 range which at least still has decent, if muted flat six engines? Smiley still at least the latest version has not given me the itch to rush out and buy one like all the previous new versions did! Smiley

Power due to newly developed intake system and turbos? Eh, probably more like tweak the software.

Just out of curiosity, are there any tunes for these cars yet? Surely it can't be hard to bump them 100 hp.

    Techart bumps the 718 S to 400hp.

Actually, it has one (VTG) turbo only if I'm not mistaken and yes, it is different than the one used in the non-GTS models. Intake is different as well. Of course they could have given the car 400 hp but since these engines need to last for the facelift as well (and maybe even the next generation...), why would they?!

Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 718 GTS models (Oct. 2017)

If you want a mid engine new sports car its either a 718 or a Euvora. Either has a pretty high cost per kilo. Starbucks sells popcorn for $22.00 per pound so a 718S is a good deal in the luxury product price  world.Smiley So think about 718 prices when you look at those 1oz bags of popcorn at your next SBucks visit.Smiley

The 718 has a lower center of gravity, a better steering box and a wider front track than the last models. Like the sound or not, it's also quicker and faster than previous models. With a bigger intercooler and a tune it could easily add more power.   At that cost you might as well get a recent used AMG E63 S 4matic and terminate any 991 challengers in a straight line. 718 pricing is just robbery when you have to add basic things like heated seats and a audible audio nav system. Even many Hyundais and KIAs have LED headlights as standard now.Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche 718 GTS models (Oct. 2017)

    Jim

718 has a 10% quicker steering rack - but a lower centre of gravity? The flat four engine is also heavier than the outgoing n/a flat six and whilst providing greater acceleration due primarily to the higher torque the delivery of that performance leaves a lot to be desired, apart from the awful sound there is also turbo lag. Quality has been replaced by quantity in this regard IMO.

And I agree, the prices are fantasy land, but lack of generousity of standard equipment is a Porsche tradition, nothing new there! Smiley

The 718 also seems to be looking for a quick way to die by jumping from a cliff.
