Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Cayman GTS is a fantastic car. I have sport PASM in my 911 and haven't had any issues with it as a DD.  However, I put it away for the winter.

    WAY:

I’m curious, anyone from RT buy one? Or will I be treated like a Cayman/Boxster owner if I bought one? smiley

If I would be looking to replace my DD 997 Carrera S , I would consider seriously the T in manual . I do not need more power for commutes ..... only unsure thing for me about the T is the 7 speed manual gearbox ( which is the PDK transformed in a manual ) . I would of much preferred the 6 speed form the GT

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

I don't think that regular contributers to this forum will buy it, however, the T is certainly the right thing Porsche did to bring the base version of the 911 into the "light". For example, I regard the base 997 as a fantastic but surely undervalued sports car. My 997 back in the old days had no model designation whatsoever and I had fun to answer questions at track days about my car being a "pre-production " model from Stuttgart....so, the T is a step into the right direction Smiley

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

I put an order in on Monday. I couldn't really say no when my sales guy called me about it as I've been saying to him for years I wish that Porsche would make a more back to basics 911 with manual gearbox and cloth seats smiley

Hahaha! To be honest I’ve also said that many a times! However, mine is always framed with “at 997 type prices”. So my dealer can’t say anything to me yet.

Color ?  With or without model designations? Will you keep the stripes? Apart from these questions, looking forward to your review.Smiley

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Apparently it is the lightest 991 for sale currently, bet it drives very nicekiss

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

hmmm, 5 kilos less to the base 991 is not that much..., but, the "T"  looks meaner and sportier, I like that.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Why is it only 5kg??? is it because the base 991 doesn’t have much in the way of standard equipment?

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

well, I simply took the info from the tech specc sheet from both cars - but, I mean, honestly, who really cares ? We are still talking about +/ - 1500 kg cars + driver, give and take - 5 to -10 kilos, doesn't really matter (though my wife would like it...Smiley...)

Here is my provisional spec. I'm going to borrow my dealer's Carrera demo car to see if I want to go ahead with the order. It has the RWS option fitted so I'll be able to try this out and see if I want to keep this on my build.

I will keep the stripes and the model designations as these are part of the standard T specification and should look quite good finished in Agate. I like the Racing Yellow used for the launch car but have had a 991.1 S in that colour and want something a bit more subtle. My Boxster Spyder is Rhodium with yellow interior stitching and that works really well so I've gone for the yellow T interior pack option as a highlight against the GT Silver. I've tried to keep the car fairly basic but included things that make it more usable on a daily basis like the rear seats and PCM. It's fine in theory to say that both these items should be left off the car but the meagre weight saving is far outweighed by the resale attraction they offer. Cars like the Boxster Spyder, GT4 etc that had PCM deleted here by their first owner tend to take an age to sell on the used market.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Really nice - I would keep the PCM but delete the rear seats.

I don´t understand why people delete the PCM on their order - if they do not want it, they could take it our after delivery and put in the 50€-storage-plastic-thing - no problem with resale, because you could change again.

I have the storage-plastic-thing for my Spyder in the garage, but until now I hadn´t the balls to tear the PCM out...smiley

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

So what does the interior look like without the T interior pack? Is it just the coloured stitching and door pull? Do you still get leather dash etc?

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

The standard interior looks to have a variation on the Sports Tex seats with no coloured stitching. If you opt for the sports bucket seats (folding type) these come in full leather only. If you spec the 918 style non folding lightweight buckets these come in leather with alcantara centres and you have to have the alcantara GT steering wheel and shift knob. The whole interior has black stitching with the LWB seats. The leather dash is standard in the UK, not sure about other markets.

I decided to have include the rear seats primarily for resale but also because they are free which is a very rare thing to say for a Porsche option smiley  For me the interior T package is an integral part of the car in the same way that the GTS interior package is for that model but I can appreciate there will be some who don't like them and choose to spec alternatives. From what I have seen on the used market however cars that are spec'ed with these interior packages sell much easier and faster as used buyers want them.

How about  "seat heating" ? Cosy in the winter and very nice after some trackday work on the way home...Smiley

Heated seats are standard (at least they are on the UK spec).

The shifter is the same as the one in my Boxster Spyder which is lovely to use. I had the regular height gear lever in my manual 991 and it always felt awkwardly high.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Interior light thingy? I think without that option, you get no rear seat lights & overhead LED isn't dimmable? (could be wrong here!)

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

Your car needs some color for the interior. Too much grey.

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

The T interior package is black not grey Nick. It has plenty of colour with the contrast stitching and seatbelts plus the coloured pinstripes on the SportsTex cloth inserts.

How do you find the manual 7 gear box ?   compared to the 6 manual on GT4 or older ones on 997 ?

Re: Official: New Porsche Carrera T

I found the shift on the manual box in the 991.1 to be difficult at times as the gate was narrow and it was easy to mistakenly go from 2nd to 5th instead of 3rd if you shifted too quickly. With more familiarity it became easier but was far from intuitive compared to the 6 speed MT in the GT4 and Spyder which have a far more defined gate that is easy to flow through. I'm told the manual box in the 991.2 is much improved and will hopefully get a chance to find out in the next week or two.
