No offence but this statement is plain BS.

    1) The 996 was a revolution compared to the 993. There would be no 997 without the 996. Some of the 'cosmetics' of the 993 are in the 997 (like the wider rear arches and the round headlights ) but on the substance (technology and engineering), NADA.

    2) The 996 has been the BEST-SELLING 911 ever! PAG would be the last on earth to want anyone to forget about this car. With the 997 they simply continue a technological and commercial success-story.

It looks like the current 'Seal Grey' which looks OK on a 911 but weak on a Boxster. They will probably continue the colour for the 997 but call it something different.

Great pictures, thanks. The best so far.

Oh, I agree- I love my 996. My statement was supposed to be facetious and a bit sarcastic. It still looks to me like the Porsche designers are trying to "correct" their styling decisions, instead of going forward as they did with the 996.

At least it seems that everything is impressive underneath, where it matters most.

To be fair to designers, they make styling proposals, not the final decisions!

If a company consistently introduces cars with extremely controversial styling (BMW ), then it's not just down to the stylists, but also to the management for approving them for production. You also have to ask yourself where the marketing department has been when this has happened a couple of times.

And if the management thinks it is not being given a good choice of proposals to look at, and is thus forced into poor decisions, then it is also responsible for making the necessary changes in the styling studio to rectify that situation.

Stunning photos, thanks for posting and making the wait more bearable.
The alloy/silver painted mirrors are stunning and are a great contrast against body colour.
RC - Do you have any knowledge on whether these are an option as this is the first car I have seen them on!

    Many thanks

    Fancy key (997)

    ...looks cool

    Re: Fancy key (997)

    Helol !

Has the Key " Key less go " ????

I'm not aware of alloy/silver painted mirrors, I just think the light fell a bit different on the mirror and this is why it looks to be a different color than the rest of the car.

    Re: Fancy key (997)

No Keyless go in the 997!

    Re: New 997

    Very nice pics!
    Thanks a lot 330!
I must agree with Carlos, I'm not a big fan of the Chrono clock, aesthetically I mean.
But RC, it does come with a sport button right, or something like that when you engage (Ref to one of your previous posts "997, a good buy" or something like that.

    This picture says it all.
The right Sport button is for the software mapping change and the button with the damper on it is for changing PASM settings. PASM also works automatically.

    Manual or Auto?

Hi guys, I just wanted to get your opinion on something, since the 997 will be my first Porsche. I've always thought that if you get a 911 that you must have get it with the manual transmission. However, a lot of people are telling me that I will get tired of the manual transmission, since I will be using it as a daily driver. I just don't think that I would "enjoy" the auto as much as the manual. To those of you who have tried both, is there that big of a difference in the feel? And what do you recommend if I'm going to be using it as a daily driver? Thanks

    Re: Manual or Auto?

Get the manual. I had a 2000 Boxster in tiptronic, and then I got a 2002 C4S in manual. Even setting aside the power differences between the two cars, the tiptronic was just sluggish compared to the manual. The real point of comparison is when I would have my Boxster in the shop and got a Boxster loaner with a manual transmission.

It's a sports car, and to me the manual tranny just feels much more sporty. It's also about a half-second quicker.

It would help if you tell us what car you drove up til now.
If you're used to auto trannies, going for manual might be the wrong choice, especially since the clutch on the 911 has always been a little bit tricky and I don't think the 997 is much different. You get used to it pretty fast and it isn't really a problem, not even close to the super sensitive clutch of the Carrera GT but anyway, you should be warned.

I suggest testdriving a 996 with Tiptronic and one with manual, the drive feel should be similar to the 997.
If you drive mainly in the city with a lot of stop-and-go traffic, the Tiptronic might be the better solution.
For open country roads, the track or just fun rides whereever you go, the manual is much more satisfactory.

Been driving a manual for the past seven years. Don't think I would get a Porsche any other way.

    Re: Manual or Auto?

Effectively it all depends on your character as a driver. Personnally, I drive my manual 996 daily on highways and into city (including stop-and-go). As opposed to other breeds of sports-cars, IMO the 996 gearbox and clutch are no pain in the butt at all for city-driving. Tiptro is of course more comfortable in the city, but IMO not worth the sacrifice to the extatic accelerations and downshifts you can do yourself elsewhere with the manual.
