I think it is a shame Porsche did not combine the 300 pound weight loss with a higher HP figure, it would have been a real killer then.
Also, maybe a stupid question but can someone explain why the torque numbers are the same as the TT even with all the turbos/intercooler/headers/exhaust upgrades? I don't get it .

AAH, torque numbers are ca. 10% more on the GT2. The rated torque of the TT is 620NM whereas the GT2 is ca. 680NM with 2.9 psi more.

The TT in overboost mode will match it you are right, but it needs higher pressure and lasts for only a few seconds.

Correction on my data above, I was mistaken, the 997TT TIP needs 2 gear changes to get to 100mph, same as the manual version.

The TT boosts 14-15 psi without overboost and produces 620 nm and with 18 psi it produces 680 nm temporarily, so what are the extra 2.9 psi for in the GT2? Does the GT2 boost 18 psi all the time, or does it boost 18 plus 2.9 psi compared to the TT?
to me it sounds like the GT2 is in continuous overboost compared to a TT. Any more info on this would be appreciated.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

    GT2 boost is 1,3 bar...
    Torque is 685Nm/2200-4500rpm
There is NO overboost function. Optional SC is just gimmick...

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

...and fuel consumption is at 12.5L lower then on either version of 997 Turbo...

That is around $220,000. I subtracted out the 17%Vat which I assume is in the Euro price. Pretty expensive for a 997TT on steroids.

Does anyone believe this car will beat the CGT?

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Pictures...

That GT2 is bad to the bone!

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Pictures...

Don't see how it will be over $200k in the US, the right price for the performance (with rumored NBR times).

    Small HP analysis:

no one complaining it has not enough HP, so Porsche did the right thing. It is now obvious they wanted to increase the gap between the TT and the GT2 to justify the price gap. But the GT2 wasn't going to have 550+ hp to protect the CGT. So knowing the GT2 was going to be 530 ish, the 997TT had to get 480... Bottom line is Porsche is listening and is increasing hp more than previous iterations.

A lot of the complaints about the 997TT are solved with the GT2. That's because the GT2 is the car they really want, but it is much more expensive.

With equal options, anyone know what is the premium of the GT2 over 997TT?

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Pictures...

Finally a 911 that exceeds expectations. Porsche had to get this one right and the power, weight and gorgeous interior all hit the mark. WOW!

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Pictures...

My guess is Porsche is gonna charge between 35k-50k more than the TT, so somewhere around 160k-180k. Remember they have to leave room for the Turbo S to slot in.

Nick, using your logic, how do you justify paying what you did for a Fiat Barchetta on steroids?

Walter's unofficial 7.29 Ring time indicates a likely 7.40 Sport Auto time. That would be fine with me.

But yes we do need some test drives before going too gaga.

I am weak. I may back out if it is 200K but i think it will come in around 185. You have to anti-in to play.

The 2004 996GT2 was $191,700 MSRP. Do you really think they would drop the price? I wouldn't mind, but I doubt it.

If a car cost Euro 80 000 in europe it cost $80 000 in the USA. Simply put the GT2 price tag won't be any where near $200 000 unless the dealers get greedy.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Launch Control

I have a Feb 08 allocation for this beast. However, I wanted to point out that 550-ish HP on a 1400kg car with more rear weight bias and only 2wd will be a real devil to handle. If Porsche has been able to tame it somewhat with the PSM+/EBC/TC/etc I can only imagine that people here and in the journals are going to start bitching about "nannies" and limited control of the car. Unfortunately, for this kind of power to be handled on a ltw car you need some electronic "hands" or some serious skills which most of us simply have not achieved. I would not be surprised alot of the same complaints about the TT are revisited with the GT2

Fritz, dare I say that paying close to or above $200,000 for a Porsche is financial insanity. They have a very poor history at that price point. The reasons for this are obvious.

As for my Fiat/Ferrari, I am happy to say I close to 10,000 miles on it and secure in the thought that I have not lost one penny. The reasons for this are also obvious.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Pictures...

Isn't 10,000 miles on a Ferrari considered extremely high milage? I heard thru the grapevine that Ferrari only keeps it's value if you drive it less than 2000 miles a year. Anything over that the value of the car drops like everyone else.

Now I don't believe you've own the car for 5 yrs

Nick - the 959 was one of the few Porsches ever sold at that price point and it is today worth quite a bit more than its original selling price.

    997 GT2 press release...

    997 GT2 press release

ATLANTA, 16 July 1007 - With a stunning 530 turbocharged horsepower and the most revolutionary design in the industry, Porsche will reveal its most powerful production 911 ever on September 11, 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the current 911 Turbo, the 911 GT2 will easily ascend to lead the impressive Porsche family of vehicles.

New features such as large air intakes at the front and the rear wing, coupled with the rear-wheel drive and manual six-speed gearbox, express the elite performance abilities that are exclusive to this outstanding model. This high-performance athlete accelerates to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 204 mph.

    530-Horsepower Twin-Turbo Engine

The power unit of the new 911 GT2 is based on the six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 Turbo, with air supply driven by two exhaust gas turbochargers featuring variable turbine geometry (VTG). The 3.6-litre boxer engine achieves a maximum output of 530 (SAE) horsepower, an increase of 50 horsepower from the previous 911 GT2. The power increase is provided by two turbochargers with a larger compressor wheel and a flow-optimized turbine housing raising turbocharger pressure to an even higher level.

    Decreased Fuel Consumption

The new 911 GT2's expansion intake manifold, which uses oscillating air in the intake during the cooler expansion phase, keeps the temperature of the fuel/air mixture even lower than in the 911 Turbo. This results in a significant increase in all-round efficiency, with fuel consumption down by up to 15 percent under full load despite the increase in engine output. This is a genuine innovation for turbocharged power units.

    Functional Design Features

A number of elements set the new 911 GT2 apart including the new achievements in emission management and control. This is the first Porsche homologated for the road to feature a muffler and tailpipes made of titanium as standard equipment. This expensive material reduces weight by approximately 50 percent vs. a comparable component made of stainless steel.

The new 911 GT2 comes as standard with PCCB brakes featuring brake discs made of a composite carbon fiber/ceramic compound ensuring highly consistent and maximum stopping power. Also standard is the electronically controlled Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.

The GT2 comes on 19-inch light-alloy wheels filled with 235/35 ZR 19 front sport tires and 325/30 ZR 19 rear sport tires. It is scheduled to make its North American debut in early 2008 at a US price of $191,700.

    Re: 997 GT2 press release...

Nice price... I was expecting closer to $200k.

Looks like Porsche squeezed the exhaust aftermarket business on that one...
