    the best ecu programming choice

What am wondering for now is which ECU programmer to choose since I fixed K24 turbos along with intake, intercooler, exhaust and headers, cut-off valves and fuel regulator..

    Any recommendations?
Also, am interested to change my 6th gear with the long ratio one from 9ff, any idea about dat thing?

    Thanks,
    Oman 996

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Oman 996 turbo recommended the FVD tune, any ather recoz?

Re: the best ecu programming choice

i tryed fvd ,9ff and digitec .. all of them was good

Re: the best ecu programming choice

thanx CGT1178 for the good information, that would give me a push toward the FVD

Re: the best ecu programming choice

GIAC has a great tuning program. Good Luck!

Re: the best ecu programming choice

oman, the best thing to do is to contact the tuners and see if they are willing to modify based on your set-up. Off the shelf programs will be OK, but you won't be able to get the most out of it.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

    Guys
Thanks a lot, one last question:
If I drove my car with the mods without the ecu tuning, will that ruin the engine??

Re: the best ecu programming choice

No, you just won't get the perforance your set-up is capable of. (i.e., waste of money).

    Oman,

I have the Stage 2 kit from FVD on my 997 TT, and im very happy,

Now they offer new flashing system for 996 turbo too, so you dont have to send the ecu to FVD for programming.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

GIAC has great support and update support.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Question: I had the GIAC flash done about 6 months ago; great upgrade BTW. Should I change the diverter valves? I am getting a little honk once in a while when accelerating. Other posts say that it is caused by the DVs. Help is appreciated. Also, what brand is recommended and where can I find DIY instructions. TIA

If you are hearing a "honking" noise under partial throttle somewhere between 2000 and 3500 rpm, it's probably your DVs.

I had my DVs replaced with Bailey DVs...under warranty (dealer paid for the Bailey DVs)

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Thanks Dock, I was at my local dealer today and they are ordering high performance DVs from Champion Motorsports in FL(our local dealer here in charleston SC is Champion authorized). The upgrade maybe covered by my aftermarket warrantee. They will be installed sometime next week. I have only heard a little honk here and there, perhaps twice in the last 500 miles. Thanks Again

Re: the best ecu programming choice

I had Giac, FVd stage 3 and stage 4,... now Im on a Protomotive custom tune.... if anyone can give you a custom tune program it's Todd at Protomotive. Its not a OTC like many other ecu's are.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Custom ecu tuning on the dyno at sportec in zurich. Send your car there, they have probably the best programmer for porsche turbos (gunther). I ve done 4-5 different ecu tunes on 996tt and 997tt and these guys will not let you down. They will be able to get 100% of what your engine is capable of (safely).

Re: the best ecu programming choice

So....the obvious and most important question...what did you pay for your tuning. I have an X50...is yours the TT with the X50 option or not?> And if so, what did they charge for the tune? Do you send in your ECU or do they send you a cable and plug in like UMW?

Re: the best ecu programming choice

GIAC has a track record for great tunes.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Has anyone had experience with the APR program? I know they are big into Audi, but I'm just wondering if anyone has used them. I think they just recently started doing Porsche.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

In related question does anyone have experience with Techart tunning? They send ECU to Germany and the cost for X-50 comparable upgrade appears to be competitive (7.5K)

Also I'm new at this process, so wondering impact of aftermarket tunning on my extended 7 year dealer warranty. Appreciate the education & feedback.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Most dealers do not check to see if the ECU has been modified, but if a claim occurs then they may look. Your best best is to have it programmed throught the OBDII port. Your original file can be saved in a laptop and restored at any time leaving no evidence that anything was done. Some programmers still solder chips and this is obvious if the dealer checks. So if your ecu tuner asks you to remove the ecu and ship it to them, then consider a different tuner. BTW, $7.5K is really high for programming. That is double and even triple of what a US tuner will charge. I can get you turbos, programming, and an exhaust for that price! PM me if you want some more options.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Appreciate all the feedback Roadsterdoc. BTW the 7.5K price is for their Power Kit 1 which also includes high flow air filter, carbon air box cover, ABS brake coolingair deflectors and transmission cooling ducts with installation. Based on your comments would appear that this is still high. I may PM you for some of those options...Thanks.

Re: the best ecu programming choice

Interesting options on that Power Kit 1. Here are my thoughts. I am unaware of the need for transmission cooling ducts...never hear of a 996TT gearbox failure (although a 2nd gear pop-out is well documented). Air filter $125, carbon airbox cover (sounds cosmetic but I love CF so no criticism), ABS cooling air deflectors sounds silly...just use the OEM Porsche GT3RS brake ducts (list price under $300), installation labor 4 hours max.

Realize that the exhaust in the setup I quoted is not going to be a $5000 top of the line europipe system, but instead a well regarded 70mm stainless system that has been proven to increase power and have no drone when cruising which lists for half the europipe. The take home point is that there are many options out there, some much more expensive than others. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" but also know that somethings are simply overpriced. Quality is part of the value equation.
