2016 WEC 6 Hours of Silverstone

Finally, the WEC is back! Porsche looked great in The Prologue and, hopefully (for us Porsche fans), they'll continue their winning ways in 2016. Here's a great video of the 919 testing in Spa (with new headlights, too): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okH40CQpK1U

Toyota looked great in The Prologue, too, and they were also able to reach the highest top speed. Audi seem to be working out some kinks in their car still, which is understandable considering how radically different their new R18 is.

Ford is back with a factory-backed GTLM effort! The car looks great, but still has some teething issues (and bad luck). We'll see if they've worked the kinks out after the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Does anyone else have anything to add?

Here's a great video of Toyota from The Prologue. My favorite part is at 2:20; it starts on its electric power, then the gas engine kicks in and you can hear the turbos spool up.

Good weekend so far for Porsche in LMP1. The Bernhard/Webber/Hartley car was 1.7 seconds faster than their sister car, and 1.8 seconds faster than the Duval/di Grassi/Jarvis Audi in third.

Piss poor performance from Porsche. Tomorrow may be better, but it is clear that new cars are now required every year.

I'm not worried. Audi had more downforce last year and I wouldn't be surprised if they still do, so they'd have an advantage in wet conditions like today.

Plus, with Toyota and Audi both having such new technology (to them), they're bound to have some hiccups.

The problem is that it is quite clear Audi have a huge advantage in the wet and mixed conditions. It usually rains at Spa and Le Mans. Nurburgring and Fuji are no strangers to rain either.

Congrats to Futch and his team for the class win, superb! kiss

Porsche GT seems to have a supplier issue, as all three cars had a broken front suspension.

Big shame Brendon had the incident, but at least both Porsche LMP and GT cars are safe and the drivers were able to walk away.

Hadn't there been contact with the Ford GT and the weird "double Pitstop" in the end, Audi might have had a harder time to take the win. Anyway, great race overall.

Congrats, Futch! Exciting racing all around. Too bad Hartley made yet another stupid decision, this time resulting in retirement from the race. He can be insanely fast, but he makes big mistakes which have cost the team in the past as well. As you said, Rotbart, the important thing is that the drivers were unhurt. The #2 car had a puncture, apparently, so they had to make that second stop.

It was actually quite unbelievable that Webber and Hartley can pull out a 40 seconds advantage over the Audi's after only 2 hrs and starting behind them.

Granted that the #1 was very quick (race pace) in the dry, but they have lost the massive straight line speed advantage they had last year. This is mainly due to the high DF package they had. If they opt to race this hi DF package at Spa (I say this because they were still to decide) Audi will crush them. Audi's big advantage is the torque in the diesel engine allows them to race with higher DF without sacrificing all their top speed. Spa will provide a better picture of where they stand.

I don't think anyone expected Porsche to be slower. I think the big surprise is just exactly how close to them Audi is...in just the first race. Audi has a tremendous potential for development (see last year's 919 and compare what the car was like at Silverstone and what it was like after Le Mans)

I am certainly not letting off any fireworks just yet. It is going to be a very tough season for Porsche , and I'm concerned that they don't yet have a replacement for Hitzinger .

Thanks everyone! Indeed a great result. Difficult weekend with shit qualifying. Start of the race was tough too, the RSR have the same BOP as last year in Bahrain so they were very quick and they work well with cold weather. I struggled with traffic a lot and the car is great but if you're off the pace you lose the operating window of the Michelin and the car is all over the place, it's a vicious circle. Car 51 had an amazing race. The Ford are imo hiding their true potential. Worrying for the RSR, all had front suspension failures. 2017 car will be amazing, first shakedown happened three weeks ago in weissach.
