    Corvette C8

I've not seen any threads on the upcoming C8, just the existing C7 - so here we go!

The shots linked are, yes, just spy shots, but of what appears to be a fairly final car, with the overall shape looking a bit 458-esque to me, with a taper to the rear glass area  (but there is still time for GM to mess up on the details and spoil a nice shape).  Guesses are for a reveal as early as January, for production start later in 2018.   Will be a very interesting option for those in NA, depending on price.

No reliable information that I can find re. engines, so my guess is that for now they will continue with the existing suite of V8s while working on successor engines; likely that the budget is tapped out just engineering a new mid-engine chassis with little left over for a new motor as well.   We should be seeing more final spy shots / leaks etc. as winter approaches.

    Re: Corvette C8

Looks a bit nsx. Long rear deck. Zr1 needs to arrive first though. ZR1 is pretty much finished, I see them testing them.

    Re: Corvette C8

Don't be surprised if the C8 uses a dohc 6.2 liter dohc V8 with a 8000rpm red line. In current street testing of prototypes GM has been using 991 turbo s coupes as chase cars.  Next year's ZR1 will get a supercharged version of the new V8.

    Re: Corvette C8

There is one thing that turns me off on the Corvette. Its the boxy rear end. If they fix that, GM will have a winner when you consider its price point.

    Re: Corvette C8

The usual Corvette driver negatives are Long initial brake pedal travel till they bite and non linear accelerator pedal response,. It and the Nissan GTR feel like you are sitting on them and not in them from their comparatively high roll centers etc. We have no idea if Corvette is building a rocket powered Pontiac Fiero or something to shame a.Ferrari 488. As GM is known to build cars "just to be good enough" instead of ...superlative, I think the new C8 will be more Fiero than Ferrari.....that said, they do build great engines and its a shame Porsche doesn't throw in the towel and use them in the Cayenne.

    Re: Corvette C8

Can't imagine they'd switch from their V8. It's an excellent engine with good power and efficiency.

If you want to get technical the Corvettes have been front mid-engine, with rear transaxle even, for several generations. But I agree this sends them in a new direction, and I assume a new price range upmarket.

Corvette looks to be planning to sell two cars, one mid engine, one front engine.

This is the future... Same what Porsche/Audi/VW Group does with their next sportscars generations. Same platform for every kind of sportscar. Makes sense, also lowers production cost and makes logistics much easier (and again...cheaper).

    Re: Corvette C8

I really like the front of the current Corvette, but like Nick mentioned, the rear always seemed a bit awkward to me. Having said that, the spyshots show a stretched rear which I normally like in cars, but not convinced of the Corvette implementation yet. It seems to give the car a really stretched profile, like the Carrera GT or so... well, we'll see!

    Re: Corvette C8

Yea, looks super long and weird. Hopefully that changes.

    Re: Corvette C8

The roof line reminds me to the 458 Ferrari. Seems to be hell of a car!

The long wheel base will give his comfort. Hopefully they will add rear-wheel steering.

    Re: Corvette C8

The new 2019 mid engine C8 and the mid cycle C7 refresh both begin production in January 2018.

we are only months away from the first midengine Corvette. It will be released Jan 22nd at the Detroit Auto Show.

I really hope it's not just a limo-Corvette. I'm not thrilled with the proportions of the mules...

    Re: Corvette C8

They have their plan, once you see it unwrapped the design ties together very well. The refreshed C7 gets some visual and aero upgrades also. On the C8 expect some active aero on its surfaces. But most impressive is the new dohc V8. Sometimes miracles happen. If you want a NA high revving engine that also delivers prodigious torque look no further.

Mid-engine with high-rev dohc NA V8 sounds great.  Any chance for a Manual gearbox?

    C7 refresh ..... new motor ?  10 speed auto for C7  not C8 ?

    Re: Corvette C8

new motor might be exclusive to c8 at first go around. C8 transaxle type or variations I do not know for sure.

    Thank youSmiley

    Re: Corvette C8

Transaxle will be from Tremec who bought a Belgian company to use its patents, apparently it is adaptable to rwd, awd, dual clutch and manual versions.

Looks very Ferrari 360 without nary an element of the Corvette design language which, of course, is doubtful.
