To Dealer: "Find me a TT." What are the politics?

Asked my dealer to find me a Turbo existing on a lot somewhere and get it for me.

Sounds simple enough.

Haven't heard back in a week or more. WTF is going on?

Meanwhile my own amateur search of dealers' inventories around the usa shows a good number of cars I would be interested in.

Maybe I should just start making 100 phone calls to dealers by myself.

Any insights would be appreciated.

You may have to call - from what I understand the inventory you see on the Porsche dealer websites are probably ordered vehicles.

You are a quilified buying customer. For any salesperson (I use this term lightly) not follow up within an hour or 2 of your request should indicate taking your business elsewhere or at very least dropping the salesperson and going directly to the sales manger.

Just my thoughts.

In which region do you live?

Problems of minor mkts include having a local dealer monopoly...given likely low vols, unlikely local P dealer has much expce svcg/solving any issues w/new 997TTs...one may ship in a stray car from somewhere else in Podunk....problem is if local dealer feels slighted....and exacts revenge in service priority....or assistance w/PCNA if car needs to be "lemoned"/has major reliability issues...

Consider that some guys w/F's in Podunk develop a relationship w/a well-regarded major F dealer (as well as FNA) closest to their region (FoSF/Chic's LkForestSportsCars/Greenwich's Miller) and simply have their F trucked to a well-regarded major dealer (from which they bought F) for any svc issues...and, in last 5yrs, anecdotal data from jaded, frequent buyers seem to indicate new F's are as reliable as any new P, so no major issue....

I guess your dealer is having trouble finding something to 'trade' with the other dealer who has the car on the lot.

It could be your dealer has no future open slots to trade or unwilling to trade away a future slot to bring the car in.

I think it's best to call dealers yourself. Maybe starting with the ones in California? Pacific Porsche close to my house has a Guards Red available. And a few weeks ago, a salesperson from one of the local dealers (sorry I don't remember which, possibly Rusnak Westlake) told me he knows of 3 and is willing to work on the price.

The 07 turbo should go for a discount btw. I've heard up to 5k off, but of course this depends on how badly they want to move the car. Good luck. You don't want to order one to specs?

Some listings are ordered cars or incoming cars or sometimes even sold cars when the dealer does not update often. Also, some dealers are unwilling to trade cars or sell cars if the cars are in pending deals or even if the delaler just wants to keep them as inventory.
