Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

If a TVR stops next to your supercar (take your pic, Enzo, CGT, Zonda, etc) do not understimate it, it could be the new Typhoon

TVR has released the detail of their new model to be released this summer, its based I believ on the TVR T440R (photos bellow) and will look pretty much the same on the outside.

But on the inside is a 580HP engine with 607Nm of torque. But the best part is that thanks to aluminum and carbon use it weighs 1100kg (2420lbs) which beats any current supercar's power-to- weight ratio (Top Speed = 346km/h)

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

    interior of the T440R

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

It'll break down every mroning, engine won't last long. Car will rattle like hell inside and that concoction of plastic and aluminium will kill you in a 30mph crash.

So much for bang for the buck. I'd rather lose to it in my Zonda (which I don't have) than take on this monstrosity. Rubbish.

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

Bilal is too funny. Wonder if he's ever driven a TVR.

I have to appreciate the lightweight design (is anyone listening??), even if TVRs look a bit odd to my eye. Quite daring. However, that vent's arm seems like it might bother our left hand a bit when shifting etc.

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

if they had late model TVRs in the USA, i would have purchased a Tuscan S instead of my Boxster S

    TVRs are great

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

    That thing looks serious

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

I understand TVR's have no electronic aids at all, not even ABS, and maybe very fun to drive but I'd rather get my bare bone kicks from a GT3 or a 360CS, expensive but you get the picture.
Here in England, the perception of TVR's is that they are ghastly built, and unreliable. A lot of jounralists have commented on their materials used and well safety is of no importance to them. They share the same reputation as pre-90's Skoda's, thats not good for anybody. While in the US, you may have a stunning/exotic view of them, and sure they're outlandish but not bough in quanitities here. Same for Bentley/RR, display of wealth and perfection in the US, posers/rich snobs cars here in the UK, sad but true.

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

The Cerbera Speed 12 would anihilate any porsche/ferrari (bar maybe cgt/enzo).
    800hp, 880Nm, 1000kg.
    800hp/tonne

True meaning of the term 'beast'

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

So would a Lingenfelter Corvette, the car will do it once and then blow up, whats the point in that? And I thought you sportscar fans cared more about handling than straight line speed, which car can honestly handle awesomely with 800hp, and 800NM?

Maybe on a straight line.....but in real life there are turns.

I prefer to "negotiate" turns with confident fun rather than "fighting" with the car (or even "flying downhill")

I used to like TVR's, but it's a pitty that (under my eye), late designs are rather simple (or trashy) and pseudo cortvette type. No 21st century electronic and general engeniering advantages: pretty dangerous.

An, seriously talking, not comparable with really evolved cars.

(I can remember he words of a very close friend of mine, ingenieer, pretty reputaded and working in the car industry - owner of a non "roundy" TVR), who has tested almost all cars in this world: "The "no ABS" pose is only a matter of a lack of development bugdet, but a non sense nowadays. Anyway, the car is nice toy for sundays")

Re: Never undestimate a TVR, the new Typhoon is here.

    Byron,

What do you think about Lotus Espirit, V8 Turbo (2000-2003)?

THere is no plastic in the interior of this car...

ANd I don't think that its safety will be much worse than the SLR or Enzo...

Lev, I have to confess I like the Esprit lines and it's concept, but, unfortunatelly, never driven one . It's price is temptating, and, at the same time, prevents oneselve's thrust..... I think a new version is going to happen. I'd love to see a serious test about it (anyway, I know what my refered friend would say: he knows "facts" from inside, and talks positively about very, very few cars). But, please, let me insist, I like the car, but not really shure about its "in most conditions" real performance, and, of course a problem if we talk about post selling service (As TVR).

Just to finish: There are other manufacturers that spend millions developing technologies (The days of the "genious individual" have gone), so, sincerely, I think that many mighty names such as Lotus, can't follow other names.....(In spite for me, under a romantic point of view, I'd love to see them there allways)

You can be sure that the new Esprit will aptly uphold the company motto "performance through lightweight". Then current Esprit has evolved from it's original form over the past 25+ years with essentially the same design. I do think the new version will be worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as its rivals.

There's also going to be a mid-range vehicle between the Esprit and Elise. Starting from the Elise, each car will progressively become more heavy, more powerful, more expensive, and more "luxurious".

Sorry to bring up an older topic, but I read this and thought I could help a bit, a 30mph crash in TVR will hopefully not kill you, but the chances are a 40mph crash could take out your legs and a 50 mph crash you are as good as done for unless you have the racing harness on, where the survival rate is apparently much higher. But thats not the problem, a 40mph crash into the back of a truck (truck 50mph, TVR Cerbera 90-100mph apparently) simply tore the car down the middle, the drivers side carried on and the passengers side completley disintegrated. I do not remember there being anyone in the passenger seat fortunatley, but I did see the car on the A3 in Surrey, and it was a mess. Then I read the article in the local paper next day, this was about 4 or 5 years ago. However, the new range of TVR's have more safety features like a roll cage and strengthened chassis, as I was talking to the salesman at the UK motorshow this year, and better harnessed performance, and hugely improved reliability (but he would say that anyway!)
The SLR is safer than an Enzo to my knowledge, being made in conjunction with mercedes, I expect/hope some safety features have filtered down.

Oh, and the Typhon (not Typhoon) is awesome, and will be out just before the Sagaris which is released in July hopefully. Orders are being taken for the Typhon, and some deposits are being accepted on the Sagaris.
