    SciFrog:

In reality it is a lot of the same people here but they have gone upmarket. I had my first Porsche, a Boxster, at age 30. First 911 at 35. First Ferrari and Aston at 40... and so on. Planning on first Lamborghini (Urus) by 50 and first Bentley (or RR, SUVs) by 55 kiss

In comparison i’ve moved sideways rather than upwards. I work in a difficult industry and consider myself lucky to still be in employment as the industry has contracted greatly over the years. I had my first Boxster 12 years ago, still drive a Boxster now. I still feel fortunate however, not many can afford a new Porsche and i’ve had four new and one used.

    First World problems!

kiss DC..! Most of my best car memories are taking a Boxster over mountain passes (and angryon track). I got a GT3 mostly to understand what the fuss was all about and play with friends on a leveler playing field. Now I find myself trying to buy a car I’m apparently not a good enough customer to buy. I wonder if I should find a used 981 GTS or Spyder instead.

Hi Dave Smiley I remember meeting up with you the day you collected that blue Boxster with PCCB! Smiley

The car with the happiest memories for us was our cobalt blue '06 Boxster S. Even though our current GTS is a better car in every way it is not part of the family in the same way as that car was. Specced exactly right, collected from Stuttgart and we had some wonderful tours all over Europe. We sold it in a moment of madness after four very happy years in exchange for a Cayman S. SWMBO was actually in tears when we walked away from it for the last time...Smiley

Back to the GTS - so pleased we purchased one before the arthritic and over priced 718 replaced it. it's truly amazing and I get a buzz every time I drive it. Smiley

BTW - You can't be thought of as that unimportant by Porsche - you did get a GT3! Smiley I'd get one in a heartbeat if I was deemed worthy by Porsche, unlikely as I've only purchased their "little sports car" Smiley I'm sure it's brilliance would blow me away but I suspect within a week my driving licence would be a memory...Smiley

DC, all very well said! I resigned from RT more or less, daily checking RT though (and pressing "mark all read" frequently and quickly). FWIW, my Cayman GTS is now 3 years old and I enjoy it frequently on a track. I may not be that quick on a track and certainly would like to "Upgrade" to a 991 GTS or even a GT3 sometimes, however, not for the money asked. These GTS are IMO underrated and undervalued - my GTS has the right size and the right level of performance and it is a keeper for me.

Well maybe a few of us “lesser Porsche” owners should kick start the Boxster /Cayman boards again, got to be worth a go! Smiley

This is what I did after selling my .1 GT3, I picked up a 981 Spyder and was very pleasantly surprised by the driving experience. I had never previously owned a mid-engined platform and wanted to give it a try while I sorted out my thoughts about Porsche's offerings. I need to be honest with myself now if presented with an opportunity with a .2 GT3 as I am more than satisified with the Spyder experience. I miss the GT3 experience but may wait for the next gen. 992 version or try something new.

Great choice! White is still the fastest colour and black / Bordeaux a very classy interior combination. If I was ordering a new Porsche these choices would be top my preferences too! Can’t wait to see photographs Smiley

Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS revealed with 361bhp

Revealed here in a series of official photographs ahead of a planned public debut at the upcoming Los Angeles motor show in late November, the new roadster and coupé pairing’s boxer engine receives a new intake system and changes to its turbocharger. Power output duly climbs by 15bhp beyond the less heavily tuned version of the engine used by the 718 Boxster S and 718 Cayman S at 361bhp.

This provides the new 718 Boxster GTS with 35bhp more and the new 718 Cayman GTS with 25bhp more than their predecessor models launched in 2014, both of which ran the same naturally aspirated 3.5-litre flat six-cylinder but with respective outputs of 325bhp and 335bhp. Torque is also up 37lb ft over the old Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS at 317lb ft on a band of revs between 1900 and 5000rpm.

Are they going back to 6 cylinders in the next gen?

    Re: 718 Boxster

I'd rather have a used Mk1 991 than a specced GTS Cayman/boxster - or a GT4 for it's sound alone. GTS pricetag in CH is hefty before even the options come in - if it would be 60k or so instead of +90k base it would make sense

    Re: 718 Boxster

Huh? I thought my 2016 GTS has a 3.4 later motor. It just grew by 0.1 liter; neat.

718 GTS specified to the same level as my 981 GTS with a hugely inferior engine is 10% more expensive. Amazing that anyone would even think of paying that kind of money for a four-cylinder beetle soundtrack sports car Smiley
