    $2000 rear bumper question

Hello everyone. I recently relocated to the UK, moving my 996 with me. Today I was notofied by the dealership that after having spent $1300 on new lights, I also needed to spend another $2000 on a new rear bumper as my current US bumper does not allow the fitting of UK registration plates.
Is there anyway to remove the bumeperettes, fill them in and have the very wide license plate installed? I am really not keen on spending 2G for that!!!

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

yes, you can fill in the bumper, you will have to remove the bumperette mounts as well

they are rivetted onto the frame, but are faiorly easy to remove.

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

    Check with the local DVLA.

I am sure that you can use a smaller plate legally. There was some legislation passed a few years ago to cope with the influx of jap imports which have much smaller number plate recess.

Worth checking before forking out 2 large.

If you do have to get a new rear bumper there is a breakers in Germany that specialise in 996 bits and would be a bit cheaper than buying new.

Let me know if you need the number and I will dig it out.

Tried. didn't work... Anyway, I'm removing the bumperette and will fill if the plate doesn't cover the holes.
    Thanks for all your help

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

Also remember to check ebay UK for a cheap rear bumper. Standard bumpers are often sold dirt cheap through ebay.

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

I would check again with the DVLA. You can have a square plate with the numbers spread over two lines provided they are of the correct size. Take a look at the back of a Shogun and even a Discovery.

Got a square plate and it was accepted! Thanks

    Thanks! Thanks!

After the guy just saved you two big ones!

I think at least a glass of warm beer will be due when you have settled in in the UK!

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

Don't forget it must have some twigs in as well!!

    Glad you sorted the problem.

I don't get the reference to twigs - it must be the culture gap!

You've aroused my curiosity now, please enlighten me.

    Re: $2000 rear bumper question

    Fritz,

It is a well know fact that at weekends the whole of Great Britain indulge in a spot of Morris Dancing.

It is customary at these events to drink "real ale" with names like Old Badger, Camels Armpit and Old Tramps Underwear.

The contents of these is a closely gaurded secret, somewhat along the lines of the Colonel's secret recepe. The only thing I can tell you is that Twigs are added to bring out the unique flavour of these brews.

Sometimes a Vole or other rodent is added as per the drinkers personel taste.

Hope this clears up your misunderstanding.

    Pip Pip Old Fruit!
