Couple of points from EVO in Zuffenhausen
Pretty good article in the latest EVO after their visit to Zuffenhausen.
I'm only outlining the ones that we haven't heard yet (or so I think:
-997 Turbo engine will be 3.6 not 3.8L (Apparently the journalist got that info from a senior engineer)
-After talks with chief developer from engine, max capacity for -Flat 6 is 4.2L but such a volume would require very expensive ultralight materials in order to achieve good torque and reliability.
-Current Flat 6 is reaching end of its development, not bad for a 41 years old engine (Or engine concept shall we say)
-Direct fuel injection available next year at the earliest.
-DSG dual clutch to replace tiptro but not yet, not ready, probably with 997 MK2 (That's my guess)
-seats are 20mm lower than 996
-Only interior part carried over from 996 to 997 are the rear seats.
-Weight increments due to soon to be released US safety regulations (Thank you guys! ... Just kidding, safe is best! )
-997 engine emits 5% of the toxic gases the first 2L flat 6 used to!
That's all I can remember of the top of my head.
But so far, it's the best article I've read on the 997. I like EVO, and to my knowledge, they are the only ones who have been invited to Zuffenhausen to take a close look at the car.
Lastly, they said that although in pics, the 996 and 997 look very similar, when you have them next to eachother, the 996 looks really dated, Harm laggay can be a proud man.
