    Carrera GT alternative?

    996 Turbo 9ff:
    0-200 kph in 8.4 sec.
    0-300 kph in 20.6 sec
Price tag (complete conversion incl. bigger brakes, suspension, etc.) aprox. 100000 EUR incl. german VAT

And you even get a warranty...

I know this is no CGT but this might be a good (and cheap) alternative for those who care about numbers... (CF...did you hear me? ).

Oh, and don't forget the top speed of 374 km/h

    Re: Carrera GT alternative?

The question is how often you can do 0-300 without destroying the car

I think a better question would be: "How many times can you go 0-300 without getting your brain sucked out?"

743 HP, I don't remember the torque figure.

Curious, doesn't 9ff have a bad reputation already? I may be mistaken, but I thought they had some big delivery and reliability problems just like Roock (in the past) and other tuners.

Personally, I also think that such a 743 HP engine doesn't last too long, especially if driven hard.
I didn't hear anything bad or good about 9ff, they're actually an unwritten piece of white paper to me.
But to be honest: every tuning which goes beyond 560 HP on the 996 Turbo can't be reliable. I remember a well known german VIP who got his car modified to 700 HP. It didn't take long and his engine was "gone to Nirvana".
I even took a picture of his black 996 Turbo without engine, if I find it, I post it.

RC, is that with our without internal modifications? I would think that a properly reinforced engine wouldn't just blow, would it?

    Re: Carrera GT alternative?

Yes, 9ff got off to a very bad start in the U.S., most of the problems were vividly chronicled on other boards and were of the type Mellow Yellow describes and 9ff US refusing to make affected buyers whole after the problems. 9ff (Germany) promptly changed US distributors and I haven't heard of any subsequent problems.

    Including internal modifications of course.
The crankcase isn't the problem but most exchanged parts aren't tested or/and used for motorsports only, some are even custom made. Although they should be "tough" enough to withstand the stress, there is no real extensive testing under various road conditions.
To me such a car is just a toy for people who have it all, not really an alternative to a Carrera GT or any other super sports car. But of course you can create a lot of frustration in the owners of so called super cars and this is actually what the owners want.
Honestly, I think such cars are actually more of a kind of advertisement of what Tuners are capable of.

Very true. Although I still believe that Manthey Racing can actually produce a 700 HP car that will hold pretty well. For a small fee of 52.000 EUR of course And it would irritate the hell out of an Enzo. Right before it passed him on the right lane

    Re: Carrera GT alternative?

You should ask CF about his experience with Manthey.

There is one Tuner in Germany which knows most about 911 engines and this is Reinhold Schmirler from RS-Tuning.

Have you ever wondered why RUF never offered a 911 Turbo with let's say 600, 650 or even 700 HP? Right, because he works as a "car manufacturer" and has to provide a full warranty for this products.
If people want to be happy with their tuned 996 Turbo, they should stay with around 540-560 HP at max. Otherwise you can use your car only for shootout runs, some occasional track racing or just fun on the weekends.
Drive a 700 HP monster a few thousand km on the Autobahn and say good-bye to your engine.

    Re: Carrera GT alternative?

So what do you think about Ruf's Nardo package? REbuilt engine with 590 PS (closer to 630 I believe)? Would it even last?
