Guys, we are talking water here. How hard could it be? You can find water everywhere and to fill 5l cant take more than a minute, so what’s the big fuss about this?

I need to refill my car at least twice every track day. With oil..... And oil is NOT to be found everywhere....smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I believe it has to be water from a special spring in the mountains of Stuttgart and blessed by a Porsche family member before you can use it on the GT2RS smiley

Is anyone concerned about having to constantly carry around a few jugs of water with them to every track day if they live in hot climates?  Wouldn't that be a massive pain?  Or is there something special about the tank?

Not sure this is necessary...it should last a full track day, even in hot summer months.

Also, there seems to be a misconception on how this works: Even if the water tank is empty, you can still race your GT2RS. You just will have less power (if it is really hot or whatever driving conditions which would induce some sort of a heat soak). At least this is my understanding from what I saw and heard.

So after reading the information from the main site, it seems the water cooler help keep temps down for the 700hp engine. But what I'm also wondering is if the engine itself produces 700hp and the water helps to produce additional hp, or if the 700hp is only with everything combined.

The reason i'm wondering is because a few people say the 488 gto is going to be a mild hybrid, and I'm just wandering which would have more heat soak and be more of a pain to deal with on a hard day of tracking.  I haven't heard of many stories with the laf having heat soak or battery overheating issues, then again, few lafs do hard tracking.

It is 700hp when intake temperatures post turbo stay within limits, probably sub ~45C, they will be more than that quite easily if being run in 25C+ ambient. They really should have commissioned some Secan intercoolers for this car (bearing in mind how expensive it is) like they did for the 993T2 EVO racers, this is the best way of controlling intake temps but maybe logistics were prohibitive in building ~2000 sets of hand made intercoolers and obviously the cost would have made the Porsche accountants sweat too much.

I would bet in ambient temps higher than 30c this engine won't produce 700hp even with the intercooler sprayer, VTG engines produce a lot of heat and easily reach knock thresholds = ECU reduced power.

I agree it's no problem if it lasts as long as the fuel.  But with the 90L tank, you might run out of water before fuel and have to either drive at reduced power or stop lapping earlier than you might like otherwise.  Not a big deal, but a little inconvenient...

It's a bigger hassle with the BMW, since it needs distilled water.  And 5 times is a lot...

Limited car? There is no official limitation for the GT2 RS but the Turbo S is indeed officially limited.

A guy on a UK forum says that production of the GT2RS will be limited because the factory has a very limited production time due to the intro of the new EU emissions regs and that if you don't get a production slot immediately it won't happen....... I spoke with a nice Porsche employee guarding the RS at IAA and he couldn't tell me anything concrete about production he said it had not been decided...

Do you or anyone else have any further insight ?

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

When they say the GT2RS production is not limited they mean they don't know whether 1000 or 1500 cars will be made.

I would be very, very surprised if they made more then that.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

The GT2RS was never planned as a limited number production car.

Yes they have a limited time frame to make them, but by all accounts it is plenty big enough for a 400k Porsche.

The dealers are the one limiting the production number. Porsche expect them to input customer interests into the system so Porsche can judge the interest. That doesn't mean everyone who put their name down will have one. But dealers, especially their biggest market one, the American dealers to be exact, are withholding that information as they don't enter interests into the system, prefer to keep them to themselves so they can charge outrageous market adjustments.

So in the end, the GT2RS will be artificially limited in numbers simply because the US dealers make them as such.

It's a problem with the law actually.

Porsche can't do much to them. Yes they can withhold GT cars allocations but the dealer in turn can say sure we will just withhold selling Porsches. Of course Porsche would back down and turn a blind eye.

Dealers have way too much power in general, that’s why the Tesla model is the future: no dealers.

In the UK I was told that the dealers have to wait until Porsche dish out their allocations (based on who knows what) and then it is down the the Dealer Principal and Sales Manager to allocate the cars based on their own criteria which one would suppose would be who is the best customer for all models...... I don't think that Porsche GB or AG get a list of LOI (letter of intent) UK customers which makes my LOI from 2013 a bit pointlessSmiley
