    599 gtb waiting list

How hard is it to get a 599 GTB in the U.S. if you are a first time Ferrari buyer. Can it be done? I went to the local F dealer today and saw 3 599 GTBs (silver, grey, and black) The sales guy started up the car and I fell in love. The silver car was for sale but they were asking $490,000
Is it possible to get on the waiting list for one and if so would you be able to get it near MSRP? Thanks for all your replies. By the way that car is [beep] nuts. What a machine. I am a Porschephile but my god that car is a true masterpiece!
-by the way the silver 599 GTB was sitting next to a red F430 and it made the 430 look like a toy.

As you get older and wiser you will learn that a Ferrari is very special in whatever form. I had an oppotunity to buy a 599 at MSRP and opted not to. I prefer the mid-engine configuration.

Regarding your question on 599 wait list, my advice is have your father either pay the premium or get into the program by buying another model with the goal of ordering a 599. Getting a 599 at MSRP without being a good client is almost impossible.

BTW, the CBS Sunday moring show today had a segment on Ferrari's with a vist to the factory. The reporter who prior to the visit indicated he was a low key type of person was blown away with the car. They gave him a yellow 430 coupe to drive. As he returned from his drive, he was grinning ear to ear and said "that was sooo much fun, sooo much fun".

You're under F-control I wouldn't particularly care to have a 599 over a 430 either. However, the way this works with the dealer is if you flipped this car privately you'd never see another car again, at MSRP anyway. Plus, it possibly takes you out of the loop for something you really desire in future. So there's more to it then just deciding to turn away a 599, especially at MSRP.

"As I get older and wiser" Yeah okay Nick, all I want to know is how would one go about getting a 599 at the lowest possible price in the least amount of time without buying another F just to get the opportunity.

No motive at all. My relationship with the dealer is this; when a new Ferrari is coming to market they ask me if I want one. I tell them yes or not. No other requirements.

Over a year ago I was asked about the 599 and I debated whether to get one. I was told a 6-12 month delivery period. After a week I let them know I was not interested. I knew the car would be terrific but I do not have room for it and in S. Ca. I would always be taking my Spider out.

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

Trip, look at it like this.

US Ferrari dealers get a finite quantity of cars to make money with.

Each F dealer appreciates customers who will buy a car, put hardly any miles on it and then sell it on consignment. That way the dealer gets the original sales profit and additional profit from the same car. F dealer overhead is not cheap.

Audi is eager to enter that game with the R8. Some dealers are demanding first right of refusal to repurchase or consign customers' R8s.

As for the ridiculous price of a used 599GTB, it is as ridiculous as its MSRP. No street car is worth that much money. USA 430 and 599 prices are based on the greed of the sellers and owners. Its their own little bubble world.

Precisely , there nice but at the end of it all there just 4 wheels..

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

Thanks for the replies. I think this game Ferrari is playing with American clients is ridiculous however to me the 599 GTB is the most one of the most desirable cars on the road. Oh well maybe we'll get lucky...

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

Need to drive 599 back-to-back vs 997TT on one's favorite roads (not just around the block)...

Suspect $150K 997TT will cost $50K in one-yr deprec....a $500K (@mkt) 599 will cost some $80K-$100K in one-yr deprec.....IMO, 599 (even@$500K) is a far superior value : same brilliant steering/brakes (CCM vs PCCB), but infinitely superior/more fun paddleshifter tranny; linear NA throttle/tq response; and one of world's greatest exhaust notes....w/more supple ride/better ground clearance vs bumpy/hilly CA roads, remarkably practical Bluetooth/iPod compat and an adult-sized fuel tank/trunk for commuting duty, unlike the ancient, fairly impractical, 997TT

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

lol its funny how things differ from continent to another... can you believe my friend who got his 599 a couple of month ago, received a discount on msrp...

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

    997 impractical?

So the buyers have no say in the matter? Seems to me if there are no buyers at these "ridiculous" prices in this "bubble world", the market would immediately collapse. Instead the truth of the matter is there is a very strong market for the 599 at very high prices. Calling it ridiculous doesn't change the very real demand for the car. I don't care how "greedy" the sellers are, if there are no buyers it's all over.

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

Gary, I said both buyers and sellers. There are probably buyers who feel better for paying 200k over list because that makes themselves feel more "special" or more elite, worthy, etc..

    Re: 599 gtb waiting list

As state of the art and powerful as it is, the 599 just doesn't appeal to me that much personally. I've never cared much for front engine F's. The 612 is bordering on ugly and 599 is decent looking but not as sexy as F430. One thing for sure 599 is a great machine but not as fun or sexy as 430 Spider.

You've got it good then. Luckily you're not dealing with FoOC. They've told their customers(including long term one's) that they're now selling new cars at market prices. I can't imagine this is the case for everyone but is for the people they think they can get away with it. Now you can pick up a new car from them fairly easily and I'll bet it's because others said FU.

Gotcha. I was interpreting "sellers and owners" as one and the same. I agree there is a little of that kind of psychology at work, but I think in most cases it's very wealthy individuals who want one NOW and are willing to pay the price, and they don't care what anyone thinks, pro or con. JMO.
