Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

    Thanks for the link

I was expecting that the finally realised the mistake THEY made, but rather they blame it on US for not being able to appreciate it such "advanced" design and technology (i-drive)

So basically Bangle also says his design is good but THIEr only istake is they didn't realize the customers were so stupid and backwards for it and can't appreciate and uderstand it yet, and blames the board for not doing enough brainwashing marketing efforts to as he calls it: "explain" it

BMW is my favorite non sportcar brand because their product is more "drivers car" oriented but I'm afraid that even though they still have that handling edge, you just can't get over that design: they have ruined the 7-series, the Z3 succesor- the Z4, the 6-series is simply a crime, their hatchback model with the 1-series, and I hope they don't ruin their star, the 3-series since it looks like they still haven't learnt the lesson. The M5 is the only one that may get a passing grade, or maybe its that V10 beauty with 7-speed SGM shift that makes me blind to its design

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

Agree w/your points re: BMW design. Not sure if M5 will ever amount to much as a commuter/GT sedan....I view BMW steering and brakes as highly overrated (I have an SL55 which has markedly more precise and confidence-inspiring steering than my M3; also note how M3 CSL brakes seem to always fail/near-fail in track/mountain downhill curve use). Plus, M5 is allegedly designed as a high-speed commuter/GT car, i.e., heavy straight-line duty....I'd opt for an SL55/CL55/S55 for this duty.....monster torque wins and BMWs have notably weak air conditioning systems vs Merc....fundamental straight-line speed (esp torque) and comfort are key for commuter/GT use where drivers are often busy conducting business on the car's speakerphone as they blitz to meetings/office.

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

yep, bmw has become way too arrogant and complacent which can best be seen in their service depts as well as the awful new designs and crap arse i-drive - both of which have been garnering massive backlash from customers and press. for the 2nd time in 20 years of driving them, i am swearing off of them after i send the present one (SMG M3) to my sister next week.

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

Saw a BMW 6 cab last week end in London, car looks very clumsy and its design is very heavy, its direct competitors such as the SL or the XK are far more graceful and beautiful.
Shame, I was also amazed to read that the cab is over 200 kgs heavier than the coupe!

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

the really lame angle on the 6 cab is the rear window area with the top up - butt ugly.

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

I could not agree more with this thread. BMW made a horrible decision in thinking they were in the computer software business (iDrive) and let alone their "Bangle" inspired designs. I always say, when a company has so much money in the bank, they often take extreme risks, its a gamble everytime, but this time they lost. The best thing they could do right now is admit, change and make new cars. This is the difference in what the Japanese auto makers (Nissan) would do versus a German or even a US company would do, they have way to much pride standing in the way. Even though the 5 series is "easier" to accept, its really not a great looking car, just look at its predecessor and see how much "design harmony" that car has compared to the present car's long winding lines, the headlines are ugly and the back nearly as bad as the 7 series. I also know they are redesignig the rear end of the 7 series, should be out in late fall. That will help but what a pity the 6 series, so damn ugly, so heavy looking, no class, no harmony, just a complete failure!!!!!!

    Couldn't have said it better!

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

I think the new BMW 5 series looks like something Batman should be driving.

The cheap plastic looking interior also needs an overhaul.

I've not looked too closely at the new 5 yet. Probably couldn't stomach the thought of approaching it too close, especially from the rear!

You mean to tell me the interior is also hideous?

At least we now know that it's our own fault! We, the consumers, are just too dumb to understand it.

Re: BMW Boss admits "Our new design was wrong"

the rear is a bit sloppy on the 5, i agree,

however, i Love the front lights...

i think the 5 may be the only bangle that wasnt a complete failure,

the 6 is basically a 911 back with an ugly trunk with a dodge front...

    z4, just horrible hairdresser car

7, lets not even talk about that monstrosity

    1, (gag)

lets see what they do with their 3, that will tell the future of BMW , or lack thereof
