    Sportauto: Audi R8 vs vs Gallardo Superleggra

    The Audi R8 jumps into the world of sports cars like a bomb, a car not just for a Concours d'Elegance but also for the track with outstandig driving dynamics, a new entry the others have to look after, but also a perfect daily drive.

    The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera raises the standard for all sports cars, best performance in all disciplines but not as good as a daily drive as the R8, a bit more extreme and much more expensive.

    Tires: Pirelli P Zero corsa (semi-R-tires, both cars)

    0-100km/h: 4.7 / 4.0 sec
    0-160km/h: 10,5 / 8,9 sec
    0-200km/h: 16,2 / 13,6 sec

    Slalom: 68,6 / 70,7 km/h
    Hockenheim: 1.12,7 / 1.10,9 min


    Both score 9 in category driving fun. So why buy a Gallardo when you can have the same fun with a cheaper R8?

    Acceleration numbers for both cars are somehow disappointing.

    I just re-read complete article again... R8 is IMHO the best allround sportscar on the market-period!

    Few extra infos-R8 is manual. R-Tronic is a tad slower on the track-this info is accurate!
    Also R8 used in the article(and for Supertest-next issue!) is with normal suspension-not Magnetic Ride!! Why? Standard chassis is the SPORTY one! R8 with Magnetic Ride is little bit slower on the track-again accurate info!
    Ceramic brakes(8820 Euro in Germany with Mwst) are amazing and they are a MUST. Bucket seats(in test car as well) saves you around 15kg's... Also a must IMHO.

    So, if you want the most sporty allaround sportscar order your R8 in this specs(like mine!):

    Manual
    Standard suspension
    19"(you can add Corsa's as well)
    Ceramic Brakes
    Bucket seats(in full leather)

    Just a clue for Supertest-as fast as F430 or 997 Turbo on the Ring... Faster in wet then most other sportscars...

    Gallardo SL... The best car in its class IMHO. Even F430 LP will not ba able to touch him! Why? Some spies measured some sector times on the Ring.

    BTW, in this issue they also tested Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster with Sportshift... Car is slow-on the road and on the track. Also manual is far better choice then undeveloped Sportsshift...

    I got some clarification for slower accelerations... Sport Auto use from last year far better measuring gear then before. New metrics system is far more sensitive then previous one.

    All in all Sport Auto is by far the best sportscar magazine in the world IMHO(UK EVO distant second and Auto Bild Sportscar third).

    Any acceleration/track numbers?

    AM buyers are not after absolute performance, but it shouldn't fall too far behind either. Anyway if ti is the same guys who tried the Z06, G SL and R8, of course they will find the AM a bit slow

    Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires

    Hockenheim track time: 1.17,3min

    Car is excellent for cruising according to the article. Chassis is almost as good as coupe version. It is also very good in structurale rigidity.
    BUT, Sportshift is POS, totally underdeveloped sequential system. Skip it and buy manual version instead.

    Interesting thing is that R8 is the best with standard(more sporty) suspension. Magnetic Ride is more for downtown driving...

    NOW, imagine R10 with more then 500hp... BTW, do not be supriesed if R10 will have 520hp as minimum(some rumors even said 550hp!)...

    BTW: the RS6 is supposed to have 579hp... Apparently, that hp figure is already included in the insurance data base of several insurance companies

    These times are very slow. Way too slow.

    About the Sportshift, I don't get why some reviewers love it and some don't. I found it great when test drove.

    500hp is a gutsy move. But, Audi is too prudent to put 550 in the R10.

    Has anybody noticed the very poor 200-0 figure of the Gallardo SL (150m )?

    The text says that the wheels blocked during the 200-0 test - with a negative impact on the stopping distance.

    Ouch! Doesn't the Turbo do it in 136 metres? Those 15 metres or so extra could be the difference between stopping before an obstacle and a totalled car .

    997 Turbo did it in Supertest in 140,6 m(11,0 m/s2)-good result BUT, R8 did it in 130,7 m(11,8 m/s2) also with Cermaic brakes. So, go figure...

    in my eyes the R8 is a major disappointment.

    the first half of the car looks awful to me.

    the acceleration is not better than in a rs4. the new m3 will definately be faster.

    the weight of the car is far to high.

    a porsche boxster with street tyres is a lot faster in the slalom an even the 335i with run flat tyres was as fast as the r8 in the 18m slalom. and don't foget the r8 uses pirelli corsas...

    all in all i don't like the exterior, the performance, the acceleration and the price tag.

    @kreso: the m6 did 200-0 in under 130m - with steel brakes ;-)

    Regarding the design of the R8: have you seen one in person? If no, better get to see one in person before finalizing your view of this car... The R8 looks much better in reality than on pictures

    I ve joined a test drive of Gallardo SL , it feels a way faster than my Gallardo...

    i know it looks better in person, but i definately don't like the audi styling.

    for me the real competitor to the r8 is the gt3 and not the c4s. the c4s is much more civilized. and if you compare the gt3 to the r8, the audi will loose in every major category. why does everybody compare the r8 with the c4s? because both have four wheel drive? that makes no sense, because a porsche does not need four wheel drive to be a great sportscar.

    the acceleration times are reality. why should they be BS?
    the car weighs the same as a rs4, has the same engine, drivetrain and so on. so why should the car be faster than a rs4? for me the r8 is nothing else than a rs4 with different styling and less space.

    What? so my little 987 Boxster 2.7 is fast as a vantage roadster sportshift???I'm happy!!!!!

    Why that?

    The GT3 has neither AWD nor PSM. Also, the R8 is much more comfortable and suited as a long-distance cruiser
