    laser jammers

Anyone know if lasers are used in the NJ, PA, NY state area? If anyone has been shot, is it from the front or back. Been reading that front is almost always the case.

Trying to decide if I should install a rear jammer, would rather not as it would be difficult and partly ruin the clean lines.

From what I hear they only do rear shots in Cali.

    Re: laser jammers

I have driven across the US and Canada several times, and I have to say that of all the laser traps I have gone through (and there probably has been hundreds) 100% have been from a "frontal assault". I have not driven in California long enough though to comment.

It makes sense as there are more reflective targets on the front of a vehicle (license plate (if present), lights, grill, radiator, etc). I suppose in states/provinces where no front plate is required they may try to take you from the rear.

    Re: laser jammers

My Kansas 997S (no plate in front) is like a stealth fighter to laser. It's great to not have a plate in the front!

I would not get a jammer as they can throw the speed reading they get way off.

That would just give them an excuse to pull you over... "hey buddy, why does my laser show you are going 300mph?" Talk about a sobriety test!

It may be legal to jam the radar or laser but I would not want to have to explain that 300mph to the Cops or the Judge.

    Testing a V1 currently.

    Re: laser jammers

Be wary of what laser "jammer" you get. I am skeptical after a Deputy Sheriff that hangs around my neighborhood tested my K40 diffuser with his laser and failed. The K40 warned me that I was being clocked and it did not jam anything. He was able to read my speed from over a quarter mile all the way to almost next to him. That's when I removed that piece of s...t from my car as it only told me when I got clocked. He wanted to test it so that he could buy one himself. He showed me the reading and it matched my speed.

    Re: laser jammers

I got the LPP, 2 heads and am deciding whether to mount 2 up front or 1 on either end (harder and uglier)

    Re: laser jammers

I played with a laser when when installing the LPP and it works. Also had a couple of Lidatek units which saved us a couple of times.

Do not think the K40 works at all, but do not have first hand experience.

The "laser" jammers do not work that way. All it does is "confuse" the gun's readings and do not allow it to calculate the speed of the vehicle, and the result is an error message displayed on the gun, indicating that it could not obtain the speed.

With modern jammers, the gun won't even alert to being jammed, i.e. the error code displayed will be a comon error that can happen frecuently when you operate the gun (ex, moving the aim while measuring, reflections, etc). And it will not cause the gun to display an artificial speed reading.

So if your jammer's alert goes off, and you lower your speed swiftly to legal speed while your jammer is protecting, and then shut it off so that the cop can finnally get a reading on you on his second or third attemp, he will most likely not give it a second thought and continue to the next target vehicle. I have operated laser guns myself and its quite easy to get an error message while targeting the vehicle.

So it depends if its legal in your area, and if its not, depends on the cop operating the gun, and depends on the fine you get for using a conutermeasure (here in Spain you are much better off getting caught using a jammer than getting caught speeding since the fine and the licence points are less).

True, the K40 is the worst of all on the tests. My recomendation is the Laser Pro Park (LPP), which on top of it, is sold solely as a licence free laser based parking sensor (which accidentally happens to interfere quite well with police laser guns). This may be useful in places were laser jammers are ilega but paring sensors are not
This is what I choose to install on my car, and I have tested many jammers.

    Re: laser jammers

Yeah, laser jammers likely don't work as I described. Perhaps I am recalling tales of radar jammers past etc.

    On the practical side -

Try a Uniden Bear tracker for long highway drives. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. It picks up their transponders from 5 miles away, alerts you as you get closer and lets you listen to their conversations. They don't need to running radar or laser, just need their ignition on, which it always is.
Don't think it would work in Europe etc. but it is very, very effective. Really no fair to use one!

    Cheers!

    Re: laser jammers

Yes, radar jammer is a whole different story they could force a fake reading on the radar, thats not posible that I know of with LIDAR technology but it is with RADAR, all it would need to do is send out a strong enough signal (frecuency shifted to correspond to the desired speed) back to the radar to overimpose itself over the doppler shifted target's echo and voilá the speed you want will show up on the radar as the target's speed unfortunately radar jammers don't work that well, besides the fact that they are not much R&D going into them to develop them since they are so ilegal, the model that I know of that works (the Scorpion), does so at too short distances from the radar on Ka radars.

Scanners are great! but here in Spain (and rest Europe I believe ) the police conversations here are highly encoded so you can't listen in
