Tom Kristensen's heavy crash at the DTM season opener in Hockenheim may sideline the seven-time Le Mans winner from attempting an eighth victory at the 24-hour enduro classic.

The Dane missed last weekend's DTM race at Oschersleben but was expected to return in time for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. However, according to Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell newspaper, Kristensen's injuries, suffered when his A4 was t-boned by fellow Audi driver Alex Premat - who also got hurt in the incident - were more serious than originally thought. Kristensen has suffered a second-degree (the scale goes from one to four) brain trauma, a contusion that can cause heavy headaches and affect one's vision.

Kristensen is already not expected to drive in the third race of the DTM season, at Lausitzring next week. The all-time winningest driver at La Sarthe has taken part in the world's premier endurance race since 1996.
