    997S in Red by conner

First off, thanks to conner to share these beautiful pictures with rennteam.com. Secondly, Guards Red exists

Adjusted the higlights a bit to see more of Red thean Orange.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Thanx RC, i'll make sure that I order those wheels for my 996 Turbo!

By the way do think they'll fit?

Re: 997S in Red by conner

    That car is so beautiful

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Does not look anything like Guards Red....more like Zanzibar without the metallic flake. But these pics might have been adjusted for balance/color before posting.

    My thoughts:

    Console is ugly
    19" wheels are ugly
    Overall exterior not bad
    Steering wheel fugly
    Center console/dash, not impressed

Nice car, but glad to have the '04 C4S Cab instead, anyday. Will reserver final judgement for visual inspection in person.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Hmmm, my first impressions wasn't very positive.

I think I start to like it much more than I thought.

    355 (Porsche-)HP for 85.000 EUR ... not sooo bad.

I guess the Carrera S will become a lot of friends

Re: 997S in Red by conner

That looks great. I think the 997 has a lot more 'shape' to it than the 996. The lines on it are more defined and the car looks more aggressive. There's a lot of negativity towards it which I don't understand. It's certainly an improvement over the 996.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

I take it that 997S has the PASM suspension option and not the -20mm sport one since it looks really high, and this is a RoW model. How is the model 997 with the olde standard suspension gonna look then? especially the US model?

Re: 997S in Red by conner

AFAIK the PASM is standard on the 997S but the -20mm are optional

As I understand it, in the 997S, you get either one standard, you get to choose one of the two at no cost.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

However, US dealers don't seem to have the sport suspension in the 997S option list (part of what's driving me to order a TurboS instead and then get 997TT when it comes out); does anyone know if sport suspension is only a non-US option?

As far as I know, its also not available in Germany, yet. My dealer said, that the extra list is going to be extended week by week from now on!

That would really be dissappointing for US customer since not only do they get airbags integrated in the seats themselves so np posibility of bucket/GT3 seats, and now the -20mm suspension which is not a simple suspension upgrade thatb you can do aftermarket since there is an LSD involved as well. I hope for our US friends here that it just doesn't appear becuase they are only preliminary and will show up later.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

I like the 997 also that orange-red color...

not bad, it looks like an old 993

Color reproduction in print - or even digitally - can be so deceptive...... this is guards red = indischrot.

As opinions go, everyone's entitled. But having just gone from a '99 996 Cab to an '04 C4S Cab, I disagree. The C4S lines are just simply perfect.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

I totally agree! Your C4S is a beauty, but your opinion may be a bit biased I think the 997 lines are even more agressive and flow smoother than even the C4S. With that said I have seen countless C4S' in real life, and not one 997! All in all way to go on such a fantastic car.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

The reason your C4S looks so good it because it's a convertible. The convertibles look better from the back because they have that extra "hump" over the back. This makes them look better than the hardtops, wich have less curves. I bet the 997 drop top will look goooood.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

I can envision the PAG discussion re: US availability of a 20mm lowered sport suspension......"those obese Americans will cause the 997S to bottom out w/all that extra American super-sizing....didn't we create the Cayenne Turbo for our heavier American friends?....and aren't the roads pretty straight in The Hamptons, Florida, Dall/Hou and Chicago?....those mkts won't really check out handling anyway....."

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Yep 997 is an improvement on mainstream 996 but not on 996C4S in my humble opinion... biased of course!

I can assure you that this is definetely NOT what PAG discusses about American customers. Last time I talked to Porsche officials, I've been surprised to hear how much importance they give to the US market, from all perspectives.
What you just mentioned is actually the prejudice Europeans (and some Germans) have towards Americans. I recently talked to a german GT3 owner and I told him about how many people from the US I know who bought a GT3 or even the Carrera GT. His first reaction was "what the hell do Americans need such cars for, driving at 60 mph to McDonald's and back home?". I think there is a lot of prejudice lately, especially since the european press started a full campaign against US politics and of course people who read newspapers and watch new on TV get influenced. But it is also a very old prejudice from us Germans that Americans don't need fast cars.
Well, I can assure you that Porsche doesn't think this way, they appreciate US customers very much and to my knowledge the US market is the most important world market to them.

    No.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Thanks for posting the pictures, Ron.
And of course thanks to conner for providing them.

Re: 997S in Red by conner

Out of curiousity, why would the 19" wheels not fit onto a 996 Turbo? Ruf---and a lot of other people---have put 19 inchers on 996s without problem. Do the wheel nuts not line up?

    Ruf is not Porsche.
Porsche does not approve 19'' wheels on the 996 Turbo for various reasons.
It isn't a problem of "fitting", you can fit a Trabant engine into a 996 Turbo, it is a problem about compatibility, driving dynamics and safety.
Almost 90% of the aftermarket stuff sold in the US for the 996 Turbo wouldn't be street legal in Germany because of missing TUEV approval. Of course there are 19'' street legal wheels available for the 996 Turbo WITH TUEV approval in Germany (most RUF cars have TUEV approval too) but this doesn't mean they're as good as the factory wheels. You still can have problems, starting with the visco clutch, PSM system, tire wear, traction problems, braking problems, braking cooling, etc.

From my past experience with Porsche, I'd stay with factory recommendations as much as possible, especially regarding wheels and tires.
