    997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Received a letter from Porsche asking me to take my 997 Turbo to my nearest Porsche dealership for a program inspection. The letter provided no insight as to what may be the problem. Furthermore, the letter provided an incentive that if I took my car in prior to July 31st, that I will receive a complimentary gift worth $250 from Porsche. Obviously Porsche wants to inspect my 997 turbo quickly, but are very vague as to the reason. Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be?

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

im sure it would be helpful to tt owners if you could post any of the corespondence you receive from porsche...sometimes these things are vin # driven and dont apply to the entire production to date....with the initial brake problem for early cars it was volentary and im not sure owners were individually notified...i do know that my dealer gladly provided copies of all the technical info porsche furnished the dealers...in advance, all enlightenment is appreciated

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Great vote, but can we have a few more choices please.

All seems a little one sided to me

    LOL

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Copy of the letter I received is provided below (by the way, when I contacted my dealership and spoke to the service advisor, he had no clue of the campaign but would check into it):

    Your 2007 911 Turbo Coupe
    Vehicle ID No: xxxxxxxxx

    Dear Mr. XXXXXX

Porsche Cars North America Inc. is pleased to inform you that your Porsche automobile may benefit from a product improvement campaign. This campaign will be carried out free of charge and is designed to ensure that your Porsche vehicle will continue to provide many years of enjoyable and reliable motoring.

Please arrange for an appointment with your certified Porsche dealer as soon as possible to have aforementioned product improvement performed. Once the product improvement campaign has been carried out by your Porsche dealer the certificante will be mailed to you. This certificate can be redeemed upon your next service appointment, for purchase of Porsche parts or purchase of Porsche merchandise.

Your local dealership will be able to provide you with additional information regarding details of the product improvement campaign that is applicable to your vehicle.

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

thanks, appreciate your keeping us in the loop ...perhaps they will re-flash the ecu with the g.i.a.c programing , right, more likely dial it back a bit

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

I inquired to my dealer and with a little research they came back with a vague "vacuum tube needs to be checked as it might come lose".

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Polite way of saying a callback.

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Gr8 way to say sorry but your vehicle is being recalled.

Re: 997 Turbo Program Letter Receipt

Alpine update: I took my car into the dealership for the program improvment campaign. The service manager, opened the engine lid and inspected a half inch vacuum hose T connection located left mid engine center. What was interesting, is that he inspected by feel and not by sight. It seems that he was verifying that the T connector must have a slight groove along the longitudinal axis of the center line connection. If the slight groove was there, then everything was ok. The inspection took a total of 5 seconds. I asked if the slight groove was not there would he have to replace the T connector. He said yes. He said that the non-groove T connector would have caused a subsystem failure. He elaborated no further. I guessed he did not know anymore. He then completed the paperwork told me he was sending the inspection report into Porsche for my complimentary $250 certificate. If I had to venture a guess, it almost seemed like something must have happened during the assembly of some 997turbo engines in that someone must have placed the wrong T connector on a number of engines and Porsche was quickly trying to find out how many engines have been affected. The key here, is that I believe Porsche has no idea if there are only a couple of engines or a large number of engines affected. Thus the reason for Porsche offering the complimentary gift certificant of $250 if one brings their Porsche in by July 31st. In any case, I advise all other 997 turbo owners to have their engines inspected accordingly; even if one does not receive the campaign letter that I pasted in a previous posting.

Do you think the issue is VIN specific? Would you mind posting th elast 6 numbers of your VIN? Thanks.
