    2008 Carrera Order Form

I received a call from my dealer today, here in Miami, that the order form for the 2008 models have arrived. Back in January, I placed a deposit for a 2008 model hoping that I would get a facelifted version. Unfortunately, the 2008 order form for the US model has no mention of any changes to it. It is essentially the current version of the car. Orders placed today will be for an August delivery of a 2008 model. He said unofficial word is that the September Frankfurt auto show will reveal the new, facelifted model. This will be released in Europe January then followed by a US delivery in March/April as a 2009 model. The question now is, do I believe him? Well, he could have skipped all the further explanations and just said, come on in and place your order now so I can get my big fat commision. Instead he said, don't order it just yet, wait till we get the form for the facelifted 2009. I have to think that this shows a certain level of integrity, foregoing your own livelihood in order to fullfill your clients request. I am totally bummed about the news, but I believe it. They will hold my deposit until they have further information.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

You're in that fringe zone. You probably will get more negotiating room on the price than someone who holds out for the MY09 cars. Personally, I just don't see the difference between the cars, aside from the DFI engines. You alone have to decide whether to go without it is worth it. Patience, sometimes, is worth it. You can continue to monitor herein and the Rennlist to really nail down your options or just, what the heck, go for it! We're always at the whim of Porsche when it comes to the timing of upgrades. There is no evidence at this juncture that the newer Tiptronic trany is going to show up on the 09 models either. Perhaps that will show up in 10? Then what, wait until MY10 cars? or MY11? Does it really matter? The LED back light thing is so minor. What I see in the MY09 cars are Dumbo ears appearing. Euro car rules are dictating changes to the side mirrors, which will force them out further than the current ones. It has to impact .cd negatively,--there's no avoidance. In retrospec with Porsche there are always a few select year models that really jump out as the most desirable. That will continue. Perhaps the 08 will be ultimately the most refined.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

carreraman, I live in Miami as well. Could I ask which dealer you spoke with, The Collection? Champion? Sounds like a good salesman and a tough decision. I was recently in the same dilema.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

Yes good for the dealer, he could have feigned ignorance about the timeline for a facelift..... but then again, maybe in reality he does not yet have any available 08 allocations to offer at the moment so putting you on standby is his better play?...

If you are even entertaining the question of waiting for the facelift, I would say wait....DFI may add 20 horsepower + improved TQ across both 3.6 and 3.8 engines?.... currently people are paying $16.9K for the extra 26 HP with X51. I would get the dealer to make a written commitment now to some % discount on their FIRST facelift allocation.

If you are really Jones-ing for a 997 fix, maybe the dealer has a pre-owned 997 or 997S that he would sell you now & would pre-arrange a decent trade-in price based on mileage when the new one arrives.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

This was the Collection and the salesman is Eddie Diaz. Believe me, allocation is not an issue. They are sitting on a pile of 997's and as I wrote earlier, I placed a deposit back in January for a 2008. No, I'm good with my Aston and can wait for a facelift. Although I saw a wicked 997 Turbo, silver with a red interior. That could get me moving!

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

I believe that's a smart move, because if you buy it now once the facelift comes out you'll be taking a blood bath on resale.

Since you've got the vantage I think waiting for the facelift is a wise decision.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

This is why I got a preowned 997. I'll see what the facelift is about when the time comes. Just my opinion.

Thanks for info, I get my 997 serviced at the collection. I actually spoke with their sale's dept. today in regards to a Turbo, they were very helpful. My issue was in regards to any modifications to the Turbo (headlamps and rear lights). Eitherway, I have decided to take the plunge and order a TT. Although I have ordered from Champion.

    Thanks again

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

I bought an 06 x3 the dealer told me the facelift was comming in no less than 2 years. It came it one year. Never trust a car salesman.

Well, basically I would agree, but thanks God not all salesmen are the same.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

    It's us vs. them.

How on Earth did I ever get this slight notion that realtors, car salesmen, laborers, contractors were EVER looking out for us? They look out exclusively for themselves. All they care about is "plausible deniability." Chances are your sales guy _already_ has his perfect excuse formulated for when your car arrives with the old look.

Maybe I got this idea of trust because I spent so much time in a university setting (years ago). People there would say what they thought and that was what they thought. They said they would do something and that is what they did. They told the truth and it was naturally borne out.

Recently I asked the kid (25 yo?) who takes care of the landscaping here a simple, non-threatening question; he LIED right to my face, right to my face! Except as BSers in the high school lunchroom or locker room, we _very_ rarely lied when and where I grew up.

If it were simply a matter of slapping on the new lights and "bumpers" this sounds really needlessly complicated.

If they want to do it all at once, maybe it would be better to speculate when they'll be ready to release more complicated innovations/changes like PDK and Direct Injection.

Looked at this way sounds like MY 2009 is more realistic for the cosmetics.

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

You should wait, i think mostly for the DFI and engine improvements not for the "facelift" per se. Porche may surprise us with the next iteration, they have to keep up with audi r8 and upcoming v8 m3...

    Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form

Does anyone know if dealers are ordering facelift demo cars?If not its no going to be anytime soon

Re: 2008 Carrera Order Form (cancelled interest )

I cancelled last years order for a 911 C4S when I heard that a face lift was around the corner. Now that the face lift is still another year or so away, I have decided to purchase a Aston Martin Vantage.
