So they used a new special compound and the car needs a water tank for cooling.

As always, I'll wait for the magazine tests to see what it does head to head.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I have no doubt it will demolish the competition in every test. Porsche never disappoints.

They can refill the water tank with Ferrari/McLaren fan tears Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

The difference is that to demolish the rest, you have to have roll cages, giant spoilers, super aggressive tires and suspension set up, and seat belts for door handles. And of course, you look like a jack ass driving it anywhere else.

Here's the spoiler on a 488. Porsche's failure is that you can't have a good looking car and have that ultimate performance. Show me a 911 that trounces a Ferrari or McLaren and that looks sleek and somewhat restrained.

Porsche is great for doing more with less, but it means you also get the ugliness that is the GT2 RS.

Not so sure. The numbers are not so impressive - given "special" tires.

I agree... The GT2 RS is not ugly (neither is the GT3 RS) but I am a fan of sleek lines, maybe with a small rear wing like the one on my R8 Smiley but what Porsche urgently needs is a...960. Hopefully they won't destroy it's shape by adding a huge rear wing.

It won't be necessary to have a huge wing with a mid-engined car, since the engine is not in the way for a large under-body diffuser like the F488 above.

The rear is the best part of the 488. The front, though better than that of the 458, is a bit bland and the sideview is dominated by the neccessary, but ugly side vents. The 458 was so much better here.

The 458 is a class for itself, no doubt about it but the 488 has grown on me. Surprisingly.

Smiley. I think the 458 Speciale will go down as the greatest mid -engined V8 Ferrari of all time. Not sure what my favourite is though. Like Enzo,  perhaps its the next one Smiley

I'm not into classic cars (the 250 GTO is definitely one...) because I am no collector, I would love driving it and I'm not so sure the driving is as enjoyable as the design. Smiley

I watched a race with 12 of them at Monterey Historics (yes, amazing amount of value at risk) all drifting through the corners nose to tail and sometimes wheel to wheel.  Pretty sure they’re fun to drive Smiley

It's true that they are lacking in modern safety, but don't forget that the cornering limits and power are much lower than a modern car so that even when you are pushing hard you are traveling at pretty modest speeds.  With narrow vintage-style tires, the limits are also much more progressive than on wide modern slicks - very approachable and entertaining.

On a tight technical (slow) track with generous run-off areas and using 6-point harnesses with HANS, the risks are rather contained.
