    5 tuned 997 TTs in Autobild comparison

    Could anyone please post the figures or, better still, the article.

    Sorry, no scanner... However, here are some key metrics from the test:

    (Edo Shark GT / 9ff TR-63 / Speedart BTR530 / Sportec SP 580 / Techart 911 Turbo)

    hp: 550 / 630 / 530 / 580 / 580
    0-200: 10.8s / 10.3 / 11.0 / 10.3 / 10.9
    100-0: 35.9m / 36.7 / 36.7 / 39.2 / 37.7
    Top-Speed: 338kph / 343 / 325 / 338 / 339
    NBR-GP Track: 1:39 / 1:40 / 1:38,5 / 1:39 / 1:40

    The cars were full of flaws: the Sportec VTG turbo chargers did not work properly, the Speedart rear wing broke twice, the "very sporty" 9ff suspension setup did not work, thus producing bad lap times, etc. etc.

    My conclusion: neither of the cars is worth buying. Poor quality - not even close to factory quality levels. Unfortunately, the factory does not offer a car with competitive performance

    As a reference the stock car as tested by Sport Auto 5/2007,

    hp:480
    0-200: 12.6s (gain 1.6s to 2.3s)
    100-0: 35.8m (no gain)
    Top-Speed: 310kph (gain 15 kph to 33 kph)
    NBR-GP Track: NA

    The above gains although associated to different testers are quite substantial and I am certain that the better tuners will be working hard to get the flaws fixed.

    Interestingly, Sportec and Techart are both using different (larger) VTG chargers. Thus, the additional hp output is achieved on the basis of the new TT technology.

    What was the flaw with the sportec VTG chargers? I am about to make a decision to do the sortec conversion very soon and I am very interested in this..

    The flaw was actually a quite serious error: the chargers suffered from sudden interruptions and the engine control light signaled errors quite frequently...

    The charger problems could result in serious risks. Just imagine driving a fast AB bend and having a sudden interruption of power. I think that RC had a similar problem years ago with a modified 996.

    Excellent point. I stated last year and I still believe over time that the VTG's can and will be fine-tuned, by PAG and tuners, for more power and performance-reliably.

    As a sidenote, Sportec seems to do a great job (technically), at least on the 996 TT. But aftersales is the worst I've experienced so far. Once you've paid the bill (they love this part), you don't exist anymore.

    Don't worry, RS-Tuning isn't much different. Great quality, lousy aftersales service, especially if you encounter a problem.

    I can't understand how these tuners send to the press (will be seen and read by millions of possile fans) their own cars full of flaws and bugs, it's really behond me. Don't they think this can give them very bad image

    They should send them to us...I bet we could sort out 99% of the flaws in a couple of days. Unfortunately people who have to do with cars also have some sort of "arrogancy", making them sometimes blind towards other products or manufacturers. There is also always that stupid pride which sometimes inhibits a better development of such cars. Sad but true.

    Btw: have you guys checked the performance, incl. the track performance, of the TIPTRONIC equipped car? Impressive.
