    More 997 Details

    Aerodynamics: 997 has a Cw of 0.28, the 996 has 0.30.
    Hydrophobe side windows (front).
New tire generation with bigger roll radius and especially improvement regarding traction, braking and lateral acceleration.
All 997 Carrera wheels are now manufactured using the "Flow-Forming" process which saves weight.
Limited lock diff. including the 20 mm performance suspension is only available with manual gearbox and 19'' wheels.
The 20 mm performance suspension incl. the LSD is much sportier than the PASM in sport setting (for track racing, the performance suspension incl. LSD is recommended).
The mechanical LSD has an assymetric function, 22%/27%.
Chrono Package Plus: there is a special PSM sport mode available now which changes the software parameters to a more sporty setup, including the engine/throttle response setup. At the same time, the PSM has been optimised for braking performance, less intrusive behaviour and even the weight of the PSM hardware part has been reduced by using newly developped parts from the Cayenne.
The new PSM system can be turned off but it still comes in when the brake is applied. Overall, the new PSM is less intrusive and provides more driver freedom and a better braking performance.

The rev limiter on both, the 997 Carrera and 997 S, is set at 7300 rpm.
Engine weight on both engines is 201,6 kg (996 engine: 203,7 kg).
Both engines have the so called "integrated drysump lubrification".
The water pump on the 997 is by 13% more effective than on the 996.
The rear wing not only comes up at a certain speed but also when the engine bay temperature gets too high.

Just a few details, I'll have more, much more, next week.

    Re: More 997 Details

    RC,

Thanks for the report. Although I've heard quite a bit of criticism for the 997, I'm confident that Porsche has done a great job at building the next 911. I can't wait for mine!

Thanks for all that info RC
However I'm a bit dissapointed with the LSD:"The mechanical LSD has an assymetric function, 22%/27%." Thats what I was afraid of, its the same as the 40th anniv 911 rear LSD, these are extremely low lock up rates, not very sporty, as an example, the 360HP MkI GT3 (the 997S has 355HP) has a 40%/60% lock up

I wonder if this is due to the fact that it has to be compatible with PSM, do you know if the rear LSD for the 996TT "X-75 option" has the same lock up rates? because it the TT's rear LSD is also the same lock-up's, then its because maybe they can't manage any sportier LSD with the PSM.

    Re: More 997 Details

What do you mean criticism for 997 ? It doesn't look fantastic ? The price isn't right ? Who has seen or driven it,
that YOU know personally ? Give me a break, please. Revvv

    Re: More 997 Details

Turbo has same lock up rates, you might be right with the PSM.

    Re: More 997 Details

Thanks RC, you are like an encyclopedia
Well, personally I preffer giving up sportier-aggressive lock-up rates in the LSD in exchange for being able to have PSM along with it, so its OK anyway. I have to keep my priorities straight and with my type of driving, specially in the winter since I don't slow down for rain, PSM is more important and its not the first time that this guardian angel has intervened already.

No kidding. Very informative pieces of information, thanks.

    Spoken like a Porsche salesman.

    Re: More 997 Details

seems as the ChronoSportPackage is a need, when only with this part the sportier Throttle, etc. comes.

I thought, the sporty set up switch will come with the adjustable suspension?

I don't like to get this Chrono onto my dash board

    Re: More 997 Details

    RC,

A few questions. You say the Chrono Sport Package changes the engine/throttle response. Do you know if this is the same gimmick type as in the M3 which only makes the throttle pedal more "sensative" and doesen't change the torque curve? If it is the same concept as the M3/M3CSL, then there is nothing to get excited about.

Also, if you CANNOT completley turn off PSM, I hope this makes it a no cost option and NOT a mandatory option that you are stuck with if you don't want it.

And in response to what Carlos said, I am also a little dissapointed in the low lockup rates for the LSD. It's interesting to note that the '99 Carrera 2 had the 40/60 lockup that is also found on the GT3/GT2. Of course 1999 was also the year that Traction control and NOT psm was offered, so your theory on the low lockup rates may very well be correct.

    Re: More 997 Details

A little touchy Larry. Remember he said he heard people say things he didn't say it.

    Re: More 997 Details

Dan, I just think it's ridiculous to criticize this new design from
Porsche; when to me it looks like EVERYTHING is better than 996 technology. The Carrera is virtually the same price as the
'04 model that it replaces; except the content level is much higher ! Especially the interior design and execution. Not to mention nobody has driven the normal or the S. How can you criticize the 997, when you really don't know what it feels like.
I happen to love it; that is why I ordered one for my self(Black/Black-Sport Chrono, Sport seats, 19" Sport Classics) but everybody is entitled to their own opinion! Revvv

    Re: More 997 Details

    nberry,
That is what I am, I can't help but be enthusiastic ! Revvv

    Re: More 997 Details

    Sounds like good stuff, RC!
The more I get to know about the 997, the better I like it! :nice:
