Singapore F1 night race confirmed for 2008

Are you more pleased with Bernie now Easy?

    Quote:
Singapore is to stage Formula 1's first night-time race in 2008 after the country confirmed a five-year deal with Bernie Ecclestone on Friday.

The Southeast Asian country will have the honour of hosting F1's first race under floodlights, with the inaugural event on a new street circuit pencilled in for next September or October.

Re: Singapore F1 night race confirmed for 2008

    Great news temm!

    Here's the BBC article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/6646125.stm

This is one addition to the F1 calendar that I am absolutely thrilled about! Singapore would be perfect for a street track. I just hope that they can sort out the safety issues (crash barriers, run off areas etc) PLUS the night lighting needed to make it safe enough to race.

I'd be happy with a daytime race but a night-time one would be a real bonus. I remember Alonso saying after the McLaren 2007 car launch in Valencia that driving at night was much harder.

Has this changed my view of Bernie? Unfortunately not. He has had a night-time event in a glamourous Asian venue in his mind for some time since it could reach a far greater audience in Europe but, more importantly, the USA. After all, Bernie only cares about the spectacle.

So once again, this is fantastic news for us passionate F1 fans but, IMHO I fear it is, for him, driven primarily by financial reasons.

Still, am I complaining? Not for one single second! I can't wait to see F1 in Singapore!!

He's leading a private company, what's wrong with it? It's the same for European soccer clubs going to Asia and NBA teams making a Europe tour, that's the way they should operate. Most of the improvements we've seen in the world is due to people acting out of financial reasons. At least it's a lot better than most cases when rich and gifted people decide they know how to change the world and seek power instead of money (historically speaking)

Although not a F1 fan, the night race in Singapore should be interesting

Re: Singapore F1 night race confirmed for 2008

Please allow me some few words about Mr. Ecclestone, whose name is sounding:

No matter what anybody can think about him, but facts are that he begun almost from nothing, and managed himself to be the person who is, (and did nothing but, generally possitive) the owner of F1.

All he has nowadays did by himself and his skills. And, despite some of his decissions can look "strange", in the end we have the today's F1: spectacular and desirable.

At his age, 76, I think is admirable how he still tries to keep control of everything, even in the starting line of the races. His resolution and energy. Yes, of course money is important, but, beleive me, at his actual economical level and age, I don't think ambition is his "liet motiv".

So, if in any time he decides to sell his part of the company, it would be absolutelly understandable, specially after so many years of pure dedication.

And related with his female companions, OK, you can say what you want, but I'd wish to be so luky at his age!

I thought he was married, and found support in this wikipedia article.

AFAIK remember she first gave him the number for the London Zoo or something when he asked for it the first time

Isn't that one of the "normal" reactions in females "the first time"?

Maybe when approached by an old white-haired man like Bernie

The London Zoo was a good one though

Re: Singapore F1 night race confirmed for 2008

I am just excited to see the race next season. Should be very interesting to watch. Thanks for posting!

Re: Singapore F1 night race confirmed for 2008

Thanks for the news! But my concern is which track is going to be cut because of Singapore and Valencia.

    Personally, I wouldn't trade 10 Turkish/Chinese/Singaporian GPs for 1 Monza/Spa/Imola/Nurburg etc....
